I honestly think she could live without magic. There's got to be more to her than that, surely? We've SEEN that there's more to her than that. Hell It's the reason she's my 2nd favourite pony

He's not saying it to be cruel though. He legitimately thinks it would be a good/interesting development.
To be fair, I like Twilight, but I still think it would be an interesting route for a story to take.
Not within the actual series, of course.
(Confound the speed of this thread, I had to resort to quoteblocks again.)
There is more to her than that, but that is a very big part of who she is. That's like ripping out half her soul. She's still got the other half left, but it still makes her life very unpleasant.

Mr. Blue, you did it right

Right. It would be an interesting idea for a fan fic, but it's still something that makes me uncomfortable.
If I ever get around to actually writing it I'd wonder how you'd like my Ace Attorney/Pony hybrid idea.
Hey I was thinking about making one too if I ever get the time. It sure seems to be a popular crossover. Also, sorry What, I didn't remember.

That's a point. Twilight did have to go without magic in the first half of Return of Harmony and it went terribly. Admittably that was all Discord but still.
I was planning an ace attorney type deal with a Donkey lead, but had to derail it a lot when donkey's showed up in canon.
That's already a fanfic about that. Also, Rainbow Dash loses her wings and Applejack loses her legs. It's weird.

I think an episode where her magic malfunctions and she has to make do without it for a while would be more in line with the show's tone. Read It And Weep comes to mind as a Rainbow Dash equivalent.

Twilight didn't really have much of a chance to try and do stuff while her horn was missing, though—all she did was gather up her discorded friends before Rainbow Dash flew off and the "game" ended.

Yeah, obviously I wouldn't realistically excpect them to do that, but still.
Just know that what I mean is that I don't think Twi needs magic to be awesome or an interesting charater.
Mostly, her power at the moment is just making me worried about balance. I don't want the rest of the cast to rendered worthless under her power

Also, Twilight Sparkle keeps getting episodes that are like twists on Clover's. I'm still trying to figure out the connection here.

There is plenty of stuff that the rest of the cast can do that Twilight cannot. She doesn't have Applejack's strength, stamina, or botanical knowledge. She doesn't have Pinkie's memory or boundless confidence. She doesn't have Rarity's fine control or technical knowledge. She doesn't know animals like Fluttershy does. And she certainly can't fly.

and... the more skilled she gets, the more you guys are gonna start logicing reasons for why Twi should've been able to solve the situation by herself

Except that there have been very few situations that Twilight could have solved with her magic and she didn't. As we've said before, Magic can't solve friendship problems.
The only character who seems to be improving at their special skill (aside from Twilight) is Rarity, since she has become more well-known as a designer and has gained a bunch of contacts in Canterlot. I'd like to see the others improve as well. Applejack get rich, Rainbow join the Wonderbolts. Pinkie and Fluttershy aren't really ambitious so they don't have any particular goals to work for.
Well, Applejack's cooking is becoming more renowned, and as Bag pointed out RD is definitely getting better. She can do the rainboom on command now, let alone one fighting gravity.
RD has shown marked improvement in both her flying and leadership skills. In fact, I think she's taken the initiative to lead just as much if not more so than Twilight this season. If it weren't for the fact that Twilight is more or less the main character, I wouldn't be surprised if the show was building up to RD being the go-to leader. Though, if they did do that, it wouldn't be the first show to pull that kind of bait and switch.
