Nightmare Moon and Discord weren't shapeshifters. They just have abilities that also happen to let them change their form. There's a difference.

I wonder if a Changeling who didn't believe in the predatory approach could ever find a pony who could truly love him? I figure it would be pretty damn hard for one to overcome the stigma of their... dietary needs, and there's always the question of if he truly is good, or just wants a stable meal. And of course, the changeling faces the temptation of throwing away that conviction and going back to the easy model of taking a pony's place.

It seems to be that old problem: good is so very hard, but evil is easy.

@Story: If they were popular enough, they could take only a little from each client - and since physical contact isn't important, they could probably get a fairly good yield from a packed house of people watching a burlesque. Sure, it wouldn't be pure love energy, but it would be better than being ostracized.

@Enlong: That's essentially Thomas from The Dresden Files. The model we're approaching for Changelings appears to be White Court Vampires, except without the physical aspect being necessary.

I still think that Windigoes were a creation of Discord's. Like, he began the species and let them run wild, spreading their own brand of chaos.

I figured there was something like that out there. I think it could be a very good story, if it was done well. The whole thing seems to be "moral vampire" + "Who could ever love a beast?"

^My guess is that they arose from the natural chaos of the wilderness. In a way that still makes them Discord's creations, but I doubt he actually sat down and designed them.
