It varies a lot from species to species, but a lot of creatures have one gender getting the shaft. I mean in theory there's some biological reason behind it, but god knows what it is. It's the same reason male giraffes will copulate with each other after fighting for a female. It's ingrained behaviour, and it isn't always obvious why(Although in the case of giraffes it's a display of dominance, so that may not be a good example.).

It's possible it's defensive; the female might be trying to clear up competition for her children.

@story L is the Roman Numeral for 50,

666 is 500 + 100 + 50 + 10 + 5 + 1.

It being 616 leads me to believe that there wasn't an L originally...
