The best man is basically an organizer, and a sort of tradition piece. He takes part in a few of the 'rituals', ie. beginning the dancing(After the traditional first dances, of course) with the maid of honour, sometimes ushering guests, sometimes walking the bride down the aisle... I think it's one of those roles that does whatever it needs to. The main role of the best man is basically as a confidant, helping the groom to relax and enjoy himself.
