So the houses are comprised of either idiots or Assholes?

ROYALTY!

Seriously though, the description for the House of Arryn actually sounds fairly nice. So does House Tully, though both suffer from 'black and white morality', but eh.

Yeah plot wise 5 is kinda generic, but love the job system.

I'll be honest, I think VI is just as 'overrated' as VII, if not moreso. I still had fun with it though.

@Kegi A Song about Idiots and Assholes is the alternate title for the series I'm sure [lol]

@Ginger: I figured you'd be a fan of IV. Best villains in the series right there. You're right about the plot in V not being the best, but it makes up for it with that delicious job system. Mmm, I wish I could just spoon that over a bowl of ice cream.

Nah VI lives up to it, VII is the one that while good, isn't as good NOW as the hype made it seem.

VIII just had the weird junction system, Ten had some pretty lame protagonists, but made up for it with the shear awesomeness of Auron.

Abso: It's kind of a vicious perpetuating thing. People started hating 7 being cited as the best thing ever, so they looked for something to cite as the best thing ever instead. Once the overhype hits critical mass on 6 like it did with 7, the hipsters will start looking for a third one to cite as the best one ever. tongue (For the record, 6 is my favourite, but the hipster overhype makes me face palm.)

I have played Final fantasies 4, and a bit of 9, 11(I think, it's the more realistically styled on with the sky pirates and the archer bunny in lingerie on the cover), and 13 2. They All seemed to play at least alright, but the story on 4 got really fucked up really fast.

Oh, I also played crystal chronicles and tactics. I beat tactics, and enjoyed it, but Crystal chronicles was 'borrowed' by a friend, who failed to return it for several years. When he finally did return it, it was after I had moved away from home.

I think my dad beat that one, though...

@Crow I would say that I found Kefka to be the best villain in Final Fantasy histor but that's just me [lol]

Golbez WAS awesome too though

@Kegi: 11 is the online one, you're thinking of 12. I'd definitely recommend 6 and 7 though, they tend to be agreed on as the best in the series.

The reason I think VI overrated, besides that vicious cycle you mentioned, is that every player character is a loser/jerk with a hidden heart of gold and a sense of justice with little to no variation, and if your name wasn't not Terra or Celes you get very few scenes of characterization that didn't persist through out the rest of the game at all. Also, a whole host of characters had abilities that really weren't much worth it unless you knew exactly what to look for (Gau being a prime example).

Kegi: Crystal Chronicles was pretty good, but had the catch of a ridiculous amount of peripherals required for multi, which was the best part, IMO. The four classes were a little samey once you leveled up a bit too. And there was some very subtle hints to actually finishing the storyline that were easy to gloss over and have get lost in that gigantic journal. The DS Crystal Chronicles addressed a lot of those issues, though.

Ah.

Well, I don't really know. I mean 4 was the only one of the proper series I played much of, and I followed it pretty well... UNTIL I WENT TO HELL TO STEAL A GIANT ROBOTIC WHALE FROM THE DWARVES, THEN FLEW TO THE CRYSTAL KINGDOM OF DRAGONS ON THE MOON.

It was just waaaaaaaaay to sharp of a turn. It pretty much killed any desire to play any final fantasy game for me.

@Kuroi: I do recall my Dad complaining about something madei t effectively impossible for him to beat the game... like he hadn't gotten enough 'memories' or something, god only knows what that means.

But I enjoyed the gameplay in it. I liked the mage class, mostly because they looked funny. And the selkies.

I loved 6 purely for Kefka. Not all of the characters were jerks though

I love how I'm the only one who doesn't care about gameplay [lol]

Kefka was the most fun out of all the villains, but Golbez was basically the most competent one in the series.

Gau was worthless as shit, I think we can all agree on that.

I strongly dislike Final Fantasy. All of them.

It;s probably a matter of taste, but something about it just rubs me the wrong way.

What FF character do you think each Mane 6 would be?

Twilight-Tera, giftedly powerful magic user that is insecure about her ability to connect to other people.

Rainbow Dash-Kain, awesome, badass, and spends a large time in the air

Fluttershy-Pretty much any White Mage and or Summoner

AJ-Auron, Bad-ASS, strong, steady, reliable, and badass. Or maybe Sabin, I bet AJ could suplex a motherfucking train

Pinkie-Rikku

Rarity-Locke, good at "finding" treasure, but devoted to helping others.
