@ABRICK I haven't read Past Sins myself (or just about anything else that's been posted on ED... WTG and the thread here keeps me pretty occupied as far as fiction goes), but I've heard it's a pretty big base breaker for some people, so I would wager you're not the only one.

You know what's weird? I'm feeling pretty chill about season 2. I mean, I definitely want to see it, no doubt about that, but I'm not really feeling all that hyped.

That´s probably the best attitude to have. No point in getting hyped for something if there´s a chance it could be a dissapointment.

What´s Past Sins about? Why´s it a Base Breaker?

^As far as I can tell, it's about the remnants of Nightmare Moon coalescing into an alicorn filly named Nyx, who runs into (and is sort-of adopted by) Twilight. Don't know much more than that.

Basically, it's about Nyx, an OC pony who's Nightmare Moon with no recollection of her, well, past sins.

It's a base breaker because many people see her as a Mary Sue and/or find the story just too predictable to deserve so much hype.

@Tenshi: Same here. I'm definitely excited for it, but I'm proud of the creative team for keeping such a tight lid on what's going to happen. That's a good way to keep expectations from running too high; if there's no info at all, then any speculation is exactly the same level of supported (i.e., not at all), but the more info that leaks out, the more people start to be convinced they know exactly what should happen and the more upset they get when they're wrong.

@Ginger Well, I'm not exactly fighting hype because I'm worried about the season being disappointing. Season 1 is a pretty impressive resume, so I'd be willing to be on season 2 being good. I'm actually usually this patient with other things, but because of the zeal of the fandom and how into the show I've gotten, I expected the hype to rub off on me. Guess I was wrong.

And yea, the only thing I'm really worried about is the fandom reaction to fanon falling apart.

My preparation for that is just noting now that I'm going to judge the season based on it's own merits, and not on fandom reaction. But really, the two things that have the biggest potential for backlash are Luna and Derpy; they have no canon personalities, but lots of fanon, and people are going to be pissed when the canon and fanon don't line up.

This is why the fans should wait till AFTER a show has finished before coming up with fanon. Then there´s no chance it could get jossed.

Same here, but I also really like this community and a big enough hype backlash could cause it to start falling apart.

I treat all fan work as alternate universe stuff, so I don't have a problem with fanon unless people start getting angry or indignant about it.

Due to the intense amount of speculation around Luna I just came up with a parallel to Duke Nukem Forever. Tons of buildup, then a complete disappointment :P

But on the Past Sins note, I like it. Is Nyx considered a Mary Sue or something?

I want to say the gray Dash is some sort of unfinished animation. There was other unfinished stuff in that reel as well... then again, I have no idea what Flash animation related thing would have Dash gray but everything else normal colored.
