@Kyler: Yeah, Pinkie's communication issues probably bug me most, mainly because a lot of time it's not treated as a flaw even when it's obviously causing problems. A Friend In Deed comes to mind. That's the only real flaw I dislike, though; stuff like Twilight's OCD or Rarity's so called hypocrisy just round out the characters more because they're actually treated appropriately when they cause problems.

Also, the repository link is in my sig, so if you ever need it, you can just do a "find post by troper" search on me.

Personally I think Twilight's OCD is too exaggerated, but whatever.

It's not a bad thing, it's a GLORIOUS thing if it means I get to complain about RARITY and RAINBOW DASH.

Sweetie Belle rummaged through Rarity's stuff too.
Rarity rummaged also through Sweetie Belle's stuff
And notice how it made them mad at each other.

I just bookmarked the repository, for easy access.

@Crow: I hardly think that "the bag was open and a newspaper was sticking out of it" counts as horrible rummaging. Not to mention that that whole situation is barely comparable to the crap Pinkie put Cranky through.

[up]Exactly. They did stuff to each other, and got the appropriate reaction.

Also, I think OCD is a gross oversimplication due to society's familiarity with the term, she would be far more ritualized and unrealistic if she had that, but she definitely has a sort of anxiety disorder.

It's okay most of the time(I'm fine with her scheduling everything and making her checklists), it's when it becomes a focus or impetus for something that it becomes grating(I didn't like Lesson zero, or the opening of It's About Time).

[up]Well, it's just being used as a quick way of saying her 'obsessive organization and scheduling habits' here. I mean yeah it's technically inaccurate, but it's still a good shorthand.

@Kegi My post was mostly addressing the incorrect usage of Flanderization, which gets thrown around a lot. I'd be happy to agree that that trait is exaggerated, except that there isn't a midway point for it to be exaggerated from. She's either normal, or worried out of her mind. It makes me think that it's more of a triggered behavior than anything else.

@Mousa: I don't think anyone is using it scientifically; in this sort of informal context it basically means "obsessing over details".

The only character who has flaws that I actually mind is Rainbow Dash.

I suppose, I guess I'm thinking too much seeing docs about all this and all if noting that while I too have similar behaviors to Twilight they're not quite OCD.

Oh, I so love the way this fandom dislikes Rainbow Dash. It makes me feel like I'm missing out on something [lol]

You don't dislike Rainbow Dash? What is wrong with you?

Actually, I've been finding it harder to dislike any of the ponies on a general level with each new episode. Like for RD in Hurricane Fluttershy.

[up][up]RD simply has the problem of having the exact correct combination of personality traits to piss off most nerds.

@Lurker: But even at the best of time she still pretty obsessively schedules things - the checklists have come up several times. You'd probably be fair in saying there are certain things that kick it into overdrive, and it's probably an anxiety issue - she likely schedules and organizes the way she does out of some desire for control. When things start going against her she falls back on it desperately, trying to regain her 'control' of the situation.

It likely comes from being the princesses protege. That's a hefty title to give a kid of any age, and she probably assumed a good deal of responsibility came with it. Not wanting to disappoint her teacher she fell into the mentality of needing to be perfect, and always in control, which she just couldn't do. The lists came as the natural result of needing to be perfect - if she could organize it, it would be easier for her to be 'perfect'.

@Mio, you actually hit the nail right on the head. Well sort of, besides that other large portion of the fandom that loves her. I used to be partially convinced they near towards "frat-core gamers".

RD doesn't bother me so much anymore, just because as time goes on we've seen enough of her personality beneath the facade of egotism for her to be interesting.
