I think it's mostly when more new people join so that you're no longer one of the newest. For example, I don't think L Mage is considered new any more.

In my experience, you're accepted as part of the crowd right away. it's becoming a recognized regular that might take a while. Most people only become actual regulars in certain sections of the forum.

when I step outside my usual zones, I don't even recognize most of the people.

I honestly can't remember when I discovered this site, but it's been a few years at least. The fact that my Troper handle refers back to when I was a fan of Naruto should tell you something. I don't really consider myself "new" here, but I still tend to get ignored from time to time, so I don't think I'm a "regular" yet...? Not that I demand attention all the time, mind you.
