I consider "A Bird in the Hoof" to be Fluttershy's inflated ego episode, and "A Friend in Deed" to be Pinkie's, as those are the episodes where they start to get arrogant about their abilities until their usual tactics begin failing hard. Really, I saw the context of the Smile song as "They're setting her up for a big fall..."

I'm pretty sure that by the time she was that far gone, she'd be too weak to actually do much harm. Heck, in Applebuck Season she could barely buck the trees. I doubt that if she went much further that she'd be able to do much.

Or maybe Applejack hits her Limit Break and NEVER NEEDS TO REST AGAIN!!!

@Crowfall: Heh. I have a lot of episode ideas, and all of them are fairly dark. I always expect the actual episodes to be darker than they end up being. I just like taking things a mite too far.

I don't like pointless grimdark though.

Yeah, them becoming friends was a big problem with that ep. If all Pinkie wants is to make you smile, then being her friend shouldn't matter. I kinda wanted her to learn the meaning of her own song

I honestly didn't think there was any other possible outcome. Even if it wasn't Pinkie trying to befriend someone, the show is called "Friendship Is Magic."

What I wanted Pinkie to do was to chill out and leave Cranky alone, but end up on good terms with him because of it. Basically to actually respect the guy's personal space a little. I didn't want her to fail to be his friend, just for her to make friends with him with means other than her usual methods.

I think Cranky's sudden change was very justified, Pinkie had just helped him find the love of his life he'd been searching for for years. It won't stop him from being annoyed by her later though, even Pinkie's close friends are annoyed by her fairly often.
