Apparently Ponyville culture does not like it when you tell an orphan her parents died because they hate her. I don't understand. We say things like that all the time back in Stalliongrad and nopony gets offended.

@Crowlover:I'm not surprised. There were hints early on, but the end of Episode 3 was the first time the show really proved that it was going the Dark and Edgy route. So while the whole Soul Gem thing was the biggest plot twist, Mami's death was the biggest Wham Moment for the viewers.

I think the reveal of Kyubey's nature and motivations were a bigger twist, simply because of how out of left field it was.
