I really hate to bail here... but it's past 5 in the morning and I'm far too tired...
Good Luck, Mage

Sorry L mage, I got no advice. The one time I dealt with it involved dumb luck (thankfully the guy is still around).
Really, try to counsel him. Be a friend that the guy can look forward to.

Unfortunate and suspicious as it is, one of the first things to come to mind is,
are you sure they're not faking it? (Only having second-hand knowledge and not even a lot of it, though, I would have no idea.)
If it seems legit, get
professional help. No, seriously. A bunch of random people on the internet are far from qualified to deal with this kind of situation.
Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to befriend everyone you meet.
Yes, professional help. Find people who are qualified to handle this.

Even if you think they might be faking it, better safe than sorry.
If there is anything that you are alone in thinking, it's "thinking that you're alone in thinking of your theories".
@L Mage: What Kyler said. Comforting words from you will help a lot, but this person really should get some long term professional help for that sort of thing.
Er, what's with the rainbow text?
Be polite. Be efficient. Have a plan to befriend everyone you meet.
Why not post in rainbows?

Heheheh HAHAHAHA , now my negative memories need to be cast aside. Back to ponies? Anyone?
Sorry Story, now's not the best time. I know you mean well, but let's keep the text shenanigans for when they are appropriate.

I gave her national suicide hotline, and I think other tropers have convinced her to hold of and at least keep trying. She claims that professional help is useless and she's been through it before but I'm still hopping she'll seek someone out.

I am in fact awesome.
That's rough, Mage. I've been there before, and it's never easy to deal with.
Can you think inside the chimney?

Well things happen, just have to persevere.

I feel for you L. I just wish I could do something. Other than counseling and being a friend, I don't know what to say without fearing that I might cause a
nice job breaking it hero moment.

It's getting really late and I have class in the morning. Chad, we'll talk about the Orion thing some other time.
@everyone here and in the LGBT thread: -insert pic of Rainbow Dash getting hugged by her friends.- You know the one I'm thinking of.

Oh wow. That's.... terrible... good night Ginger and J Teeth. (and I did read, it was shorter than I thought it was

)
But I can see why someone might not enjoy or trust in therapy. It takes a loooong time to see improvement in mental health, even with the help of medicine.

but being personal is effective, like saying "I will be sad if you die" versus "People will be sad when you die"
