Well, this is what I was trying to test...

A common example of a velarized consonant is the velarized alveolar lateral approximant (or dark l). In some accents of English, such as Received Pronunciation, the phoneme /l/ has "dark" and "light" allophones: the "dark", velarized allophone appears in syllable coda position (e.g. in full), while the "light", non-velarized allophone appears in syllable onset position (e.g. in lawn). Other accents of English, such as Scottish English and Australian English, have "dark L" in all positions, while Hiberno-English has "clear L" in all positions.

TL;DR There is a difference between the two "l"s in some English accents

I've actually got two chapters up on fimfiction.

The problem is... it's set in the universe of The Conversion Bureau. For those of you who don't know, The Conversion Bureau is a shitty fanfic that spawned a bunch of spinoffs of people who saw the premise and decided "yeah, this fucking sucks, I can do better."
