But it always feels weird when they put on the Elements of Harmony and use their magical Care Bear Stare to defeat a villain. It always just feels wrong, like there's absolutely nothing about these ponies that suggests they should even be in this type of story, and yet they are anyway

But it was established that they could do this in the first episode. Therefore it's only natural for viewers to expect more of it.

@Ginger: No, I did expect it to be about Spike, and I think it's good for him to have more focus. But I personally don't like Spike all that much, so I wasn't really looking forward to the episode. But then it turned out I loved it.

I still wish that the Spike episode would have included more about how Spike relates to the other ponies.

We are actually talking about expectations of the show and whether it should stick more to a Slice of Life or pseudo-Super Sentai style.

A Dog and Pony Show was just an awesome episode all round.

"THIS is whining!"

Diamond Tiara is in the next episode and it looks like she's still a villain.

I wouldn't mind an even split either as long as they keep up the character interaction. If there's one criticism I have of this season overall, it's that too many episodes focus too closely on individual characters isolating themselves. Not that any of the individual episodes are bad, but I feel like there was a bit more variety in the first season.

Indeed! I would like a fine slice between Slice Of Life and Adventure stories. Also, I technically found Part 2 of Return of Harmony to be superior than the first but, [[YMMV that's just me]].

Who do you ship with who in your head cannon?

I always seem to ship Spike X OC Dragoness, or Spike X Applejack. So much so to the point where several of my dreams involved this pairing in some way or another.

I liked part 1 of Return of Harmony muuuuuuuch better. Part 2 felt like they just got tired of writing and handed the heroes a victory, completely deestablishing Discord as a threat.

Personally, I wanna see more Diamond Dog level threats. More dangerous to the characters than jerks, but not full on supervillains

Me too. But I prefer count Ro H as one thing not separate episodes.

I think MLPFIM could take even more badplot villains.

@ Purple: Really, she didn't look like she was being antagonistic to me. I think it's going to be the CMC themselves acting as their own antagonists getting hurtful stories and what not.
