Is this supposed to be a school newspaper? Because they've got a pretty elaborate setup for that. And what was Cheerilee thinking making DT the editor?

I like the bit of continuity with the "Ponyville the early years, " article. They don't say who wrote it, but you can assume Applebloom got that story from Granny Smith.

Maybe the newspaper is for the entire school system instead of that tiny red school house? Like, it's kid run but also has input from older students and teachers and stuff. Like a college newspaper: it's not just run by college students, there are other people that write, including freelance journalists and a few talented young writers.

Either that or Rule of Funny

And maybe DT's talent has to do with management (like of businesses) so she would be good for the job?

Tiara = Royalty = Ruling = Management? I'm not sure if that's a stretch or plain old Insane Troll Logic right there.

Or she could just have that as something she can do because of her father's business. I mean, ponies can do stuff other than their special talent after all. Although what in the world DOES her cutie mark represent???

I'm trying to make a point. Rarity's cutie mark is gems, but she's not a jeweler. (Her gems are maybe used as accessories on a dress, if at all.) Flim and Flam have apples, but they're more known for their machine.

Point is, cutie marks are often symbolic, and there's plenty of room for interpretation.

I think the cutie mark can also represent the moment when they realized their talent. Like, Rarity's talent is with clothing, but she really only realized this when she used jewels to make clothing. So it's possible that Cheerilee got her cutie mark when she saw flowers or something and thought "Flowers are cute, so I will now teach children."

I'm not sure about the jump, but maybe flowers figured into it somehow.

Well, I always took Rarity's special talent not to be clothing per se, but bringing out the inner beauty in things/ponies. She just prefers to do it with clothes and gems

Actually, yeah, I like the idea that Rarity's talent is bringing out beauty and the say she does it is through clothing. The saying "a diamond in the rough" fits her philosophy too.
