@Perpetual: For me at least, I just look at shipping as a way of exploring the characters more; whenever a pairing pops up, my thoughts are usually along the lines of either "What would it take to make this pairing happen and still be in character" or "how would a romantic relationship affect these characters' interactions". Then again I almost never assume any of it is canon; I always see it as more of an experiment in characterization.

Yeah, that one. It was great in the beginning, but all consuming grimdark really ruined it for me. I don't think it ever completed, either.
@JT Of course, and that's the right way to use shipping. Unfortunately, that very rarely how or why people do it, and it can get on my nerves.

Well, if the crabapple trees in that one episode were any indication, EP do deal with magical phenomena in a mundane way, making them, if they chose, the Superhero Hunters or whatever the hell the trope is with Badass Normals handling the empowered.
I will find my own purpose. And purge this world of all who oppose me. Alicorns and Ponies alike. Equesteria will heed my warning. The reign of Cadence/Discord/Whoever's causing the ruckus will soon begin.

I completely agree with you J T. It is strange to ship once the official pairings have been revealed within the canon. But I still sometimes read romance fanfiction for an official pairing, but then it's only the light fluffy variety of "What happens now that they're together?"

Well, Fluttershy seemed to be flying really slow for a horse, like maybe human running speed (which would be like 5-6 miles and hour or so). And she got .5 wingpower. So yeah, I think that would work.

@JT Never saw how people say that myself. At best, there's subtext, but outside of the actual canon couple's of Mr and Mrs Cake, Rarity's parents, and others like that (I'm unsure about Rarity and Spike being romantic or kid crush. I'd doubt anything will happen unless the show does a in the future episode (or series) due to spike being a kid.), the show isn't purposely showing any romantic relations between the cast.
The only exception is Big Mac X Cherilee due to the end of hearts and hoof's day. (unless they were joking)
