[up]Actually big cities probably would not have the water to spare. So probably not. Besides some of them might actually get their water from far off sources.

[up][up]We don't know what any of their final scores are.

Random note from the episode: spike's checklist had a little profile drawing of every pony instead of simply writing their name. I can imagine a whole lot of misunderstandings and shenanigans resulting from that.

It's likely for the sake of the international localizers of the show, who might be using different local puns for the Pegasus names.

Does Equestria have oceans? I figure Cloudsdale would save a good amount of trouble if they got water from there.

[up]I can attest to that. Writers and artists make clear note of when and where to use on-screen text on a TV show if it will be shown internationally. Some companies can't afford or don't bother to translate some of them.

@ Servbot, yeah I understand why, same reason there's almost no English writing..it's all vague letter like shapes or pictograms. But wouldn't it make more sense to use there Cutie Mark instead of a profile drawing?

[up] unless salt water messes up the process.

[up][up][up]In Mexico's dub they use the original names ...most of the time

Cheerilee had a similar checklist in Family Appreciation Day. It seems to be standard procedure for Equestria.

@Shota: Cloudsdale or any city we have seen doesn't appear to be close to any ocean.

True. Hm... Maybe some of the pegasi are still blank flanks?

Now I'm kinda wondering what the Mexican dub is like...

Does it air at the same schedule as the English dub?

@Servbot Rumble definitely was.

Maybe the pictures instead of wording is to make it easier for dubs. They probably don't want to get the 4 Kids treatment in other regions.

Does the show use a lot of wording in episodes otherwise?

Alternatively it's just cause it's kinda funny.

@Mio: I just rewatched the scene were they introduce the anemometer thing, and they never show who does the math. Twilight takes the measurements, and then RD announces that everybody has to hit 10. We never see how they arrive at that calculation. And if I remember right, almost all of the initial wingpower measurements are in the range of 8-9, so expecting them to get up to ten after a week of preparation might not be that much of an overestimation.

[up]Not really. Between the fact that it makes translation easier, and the fact that a chunk of the show's primary demographic might not be able to read anyway, it's pretty certain that on-screen text isn't ever going to be plot relevant. The closest we got was the "Welcome Princess Celest" banner in season 1.

So if they needed everypony to reach higher than 10 in order to reach 1000, that means there were close to 100 pegasi participating?

at Psi, no they almost never have actual written English, only times I can think of for sure is the Welcome bannner for Celstia in Swarm, and the cake frosting Happy Birthday Pinkie in Party of One.

and the cake frosting Happy Birthday Pinkie in Party of One.

IIRC, they didn't even spell that right. Half of it was just illegible scribbles.

The German Dub pretty much uses the same pony names as the original, but some place names were changed. For example, the Everfree Forest is the "Forest of Eternal Magic."

Reactions to changes like this are mixed...
