If there's one thing both Derpy voices used on the show did right, it was definitely sounding silly enough while remaining cute. I don't really dabble too much in fan works outside the occasional fic, so I don't know about fan voices. People tend to become attached to the first voice they hear a character use, though, so those who listened to the fan recordings pre-TLR understandably like BDR more.
I also don't get where this thing of Vinyl having red eyes came from tbh
