No actually, it was Earth ponies that did it. They can grow anything anywhere.

Anyway, now that I'm watching the third case, the Steel Samurai theme is really growing on me. I'll admit that it's almost as good as Jake Marshall's theme. I still don't get what people see in Godot's theme though.

If AJ can get trees to produce apples in winter (check the intro of "Hearth's Warming Eve") and Apploosa can grow apple trees in the desert, cherry trees in a desert shouldn't be too hard.
