Hard to say about the golem, since they're supposed to be man-made. They seem to like to stick relatively close to mythology. Although it would be pretty neat to see a couple of earth ponies in Canterlot with a golem servant, because they can't do all the things a unicorn could.

It seems like they could pretty much just crack open a D+D guidebook for their inspiration. Heh. Twilight Sparkle Vs. The Mindflayer!

Not really, as the parasprites were something that Pinkie was capable of defeating I don't think th situation was that high on the Threat-Dar. Yet she sent them to deal with the dragon, which was a much more urgent matter. What kind of cosmic horror was she busy battling that made her look at the potential decimation of her country and go "I'll get my student to handle that"?

In unrelated news, I just got back from a brony meetup. Whee! Its pretty cool hearing about 50 people singing along with the songs. Anyone else been to one of these?
