Yeah, hilarious as it would be, there's no way the show would get away with that because of the inevitable protests. After what happened with Derpy, there's no way they'd try something like that.

Anyway, I'm also curious about how the Elements work. My guess is that they're sort of a "purifying good things from evil elements" type of thing. If there used on something that's inherently evil or dangerous that it can't "fix" (like Discord) it just seals them so they won't cause any more trouble.

I'm not finding a trope, so let me explain by example:

Consider the element Laugher. Two friends are talking to each other. One of them makes a remark offensive. They could have their friendship scratched or even ruined by this incident. BUT if "offended" laughs and forgives, friendship prevails.

In the show, the elements work at the literal level and are also overempathized by the rainbows/energy rays/stuff symbolically. That's all they'll do.

The easiest way to think of it is that it's like a videogame tech tree. It represents a set of techs that you can ressearch one at a time, and all prerequisites are independet (i.e. there are no mutally exclusive options).

To be fair, the story is actually readable in terms of grammar and writing structure. It's just that the writer obviously put a Brain Bleach-requiring amount of thought into how Equestrian pony and Human anatomy would interact at that level.
