anypony have any ideas where she might have learned how to sew?
Her mom.

Just off the top of my head.
But apart, all we are is just a pile of mush and some crumbly dry mess...

Picked it up from Rarity?

She was raised by wolves. Tailor wolves.

^ Rarity seemed surprised, so she probably learned it somewhere else.

I didn't say Rarity taught her. Fluttershy could have just watched and learned without Rarity being aware.

As pointed out on the idea page Fluttershy seems to be a vetrenarian of some sort. Her knowlege of sewing could be a part of her medical duties which also explains why she wasn't able to come up with a decent looking dress.

I can stitch up this dress just like I stitched that bunny's leg back together!

In the Magical Land of Equestria I would not rule out tailor wolves.

High class, well mannered tailoring wolves with British accents.

A more boring suggestion: Fluttershy just happened to see something that interested her, maybe in a magazine or something, took it up as a hobby and just learned about it over time?

Freak power outages and my Internet failing for long periods of time afterward when I was on the verge of finishing up a drawing sucks. This should have been posted 8 hours earlier.

Yeah, Idk where Fluttershy learned to sew, but honestly I don't think it's that important...

Just pick an existing city or town and add a pony pun.

I don't want to do that, because I when I base it off of somewhere that actually exists, people expect it to be based off of the real place (like Manehattan), which it won't be. I just want something generic, like Ponyville or Hoofington

If you want to be all G1 you could just pick a word and add "Valley"

Not every place in MLP is horse related. Apploosa wasn't. You could name it after a geographic feature or something the town is known for.

[up][up]A horse's ankle, just above the hoof.

It also sounds like a cool name for a town.

I only recently realized that "Bluffington" and "Bloatsburg" from Doug must have been plays on Huffington and Pittsburgh. So if Hoofington is based on Huffington, then can there be a pony version of Pittsburgh?

Well actually, Appleoosa is named after Appaloosa, a breed of horse: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appaloosa

Huh. I learned something new today.

Well then name it after a kind of horse.

Mustang City, Mustangboro, Brandenburger, Arabian Falls.

Depends. You mean, another city just like Ponyville? Or is there any particular feature or theme that you want in the city?

Tangential question: Does anyone know if there's any information to indicate that Equestria does or does not have an equivalent to Halloween?

Funny thing, I was browsing ponibooru the other day and found this calendar set. The month in the top-right corner could be depicting trick-or-treating. Can anyone find this product anywhere else to get a better look?

Some names I thought of that aren't completely terrible:

Saddleton

Buckington

Haydale (I like this one because it's a play on the word hay bale)
