Much as I love Madoka, I do think it had some serious characterization issues. They were quite flat to my eye.

Paranoia... driving me... to read that sentence... as being condescending

Give in to the dark side! Let the paranoia flow through you!
...I'll admit, I intended it to be a little snappy.
I apologize for that.
Can you think inside the chimney?
oh goodie..do I get to break out my new CIWS ginger tranq system?
Build a fool proof system, and the world will create a better fool.
@Badwolf: Hm... probably Applejack, yeah. She had a legitimate product to sell for an honest cause, and she was looked down on and ignored. Granted, she shouldn't have been trying to sell food at a party she was a guest at, but still. Not cool, Canterlot set.
Can you think inside the chimney?
I just heard that the 25th and 26th episodes are in fact the Canterlot Wedding. Weren't there supposed to be 28?
I cared about two characters... Mami... and Madoka's Mom.
If I don't like the heroes, what else is there to interest me? The villain? THAT smug piece of shit?

Madoka, eh? I never got around to watching the series. If I wanted to see a good angstfest, I'd watch Serial Experiments Lain, Haibane Renmei, Giant Robo, Grave of the Fireflies, Now and Then, Here and There, or Boogie Pop Phantom. Or
RahXephon, but at least that last one has lightness to balance the angst.

Gully Foyle is my name,
and Terra is my nation.
Deep space is my dwelling place,
and death's my destination.
@ Bad, AJ. her only problem that was her own was not checking to see if there was other sources of food there.
RD wasn't intentionally snubbed, the Wonderbolts did want to hang out with her, RD just overestimated how much of there attention she'd have.
Twilight also wasn't an intetnional thing, Celestia wanted to spend time with her, but the boring drudery of the Gala got in the way.
Rarity...well that was just bad luck she choose to try and charm such a clueless sod.
Pinkie had it coming for not realizing no-pony else wanted to PAR-TY and that the Gala was not really a party as she understood it.
Fluttershy also brought it on herself by being to flutterrage and sarring the animals, which made her more ragey etc.. if she had just took the time to chill out and be her normal self she would have been fine.

@ginger: The thing about Madoka Magica is that it's not the characters you should be caring about first and foremost. It's the underlying current of what it means to be a
Magical Girl in this series, and how the characters deal with what they find out.

If you wish to know, you only need to ask.
I don't think you know who was intentionally trying to be evil though. It's more like
Blue and Orange Morality.
Anyway, did the replay I posted help you at all Red?
If there is anything that you are alone in thinking, it's "thinking that you're alone in thinking of your theories".
A plot... with no villain...
"Contests fought between two masters are decided instantly. An invisible battle is now raging between the two of them." Lulu vs Schneizel
@Ginger: But with tons of antagonists, many of whom are very thematically interesting.
@Yeller: A bit, yeah. I got bored in the second puzzle chamber, though.

It's not that there isn't a villain, ginger. It's just not obvious at first.
If you wish to know, you only need to ask.

I'd call Kyuebey the villain even if it isn't evil. For a more antagonistic force Walpuguisnaught is the major threat for the latter half of the series.
