@Mage I'm not a big fan of wide open games. I like games that keep you focused, or games that focus on story. The Zelda games don't really do that to my knowledge

@osias: Yeah, Celestia and Luna share the post of God-Empress, pretty much.

^Oh, they're all about story. Especially Majora's Mask.

I'm afraid the only Zelda games I've played are A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, The Minnish Cap, and Phantom Hourglass. Of those, I'm a huge fan of Link's Awakening.

@Storyyeller

Although that game does have Dodongo, a lot of the games have that particular boss

[up] Save for the Oracle games (which I think EVERYONE needs to play), you're good ^_^

Oh, they're all about story. Especially Majora's Mask.

The part where the elegy of emptiness statue keeps following you is especially creepy.

Zelda games are just kind of "ok, " in my opinion.

Yeah know what's really weird? I'm not aware of any Pony/Zelda crossovers.

Zelda is very story driven but leaves the play in a wide open world so they can peruse the millions of side quests and minigames.

I'm lukewarm about Zelda, the games are fun, but to me they don't have a lot of replay value.

I've played all of the console Zelda games aside from Skyward Sword at least twice... it's hard to stop yourself when there's been a new one announced and you just have to play Zelda, you know? =D

@Mage: You have Link as your avatar, you hypocrite. XD

Hmm, Ginger, you remind me of myself in this scenario. Only replace Zelda with every popular FPS ever (save for Doom, naturally) [lol]

I mean, there's a reason I'm a huge retro gamer, guys. They literally don't make that many platforming games. Sure, there are plenty, right? But the plethora of FPSes and other genres make it hard to find them unless they get huge coverage. I like some other genres, too, but the modern incarnations of my favorites ones feel... different.

In the end, it's probably just me, though.

well Ginger, the 3D games especially focus a lot on story and since your only experience is apparently with the 2D ones it may benefit you to at least try 1 3D Zelda game.

I hear Wind Waker is quite popular with newbies.

[up]I understand entirely. I like platformers too.

No. Just because I can, I'd recommend him Ocarina. Why? Because once you get through the relatively easy first 3 dungeons and stuff, and you get to the Forest Temple, shit gets real.

I can't play western RPG's because of all the damn side quests and shit.

It's the problem I have with sandbox games in general. I just wanna get to the villain DAMMIT!!

@Phaser, I'd rather not put him through the Water Temple so early in his Zelda career.

Zelda is 1) not an RPG and 2) have some pretty cool villains. I mean Ganondorf did succeed in taking over everything.

My favorite Zelda game was Link's Awakening. The Ballad of the Wind Fish was the best video game music I'd heard at the time.

This is from a while back, but

Why? Ganandorf is pretty badass as villains go (at least in his latter incarnations)

Personally, my favorite Zelda music is the Wind Waker opening theme, though I'm open to other suggestions.

The Zelda games do have fairly tight stories, but they allow you to wander off if you so choose. I very rarely do, myself.

My opinion on the Zelda series has varied from game to game. I absolutely loved Twilight Princess, and quite enjoyed Wind Waker in spite of the sailing. Oddly, I played Ocarina of Time recently and... didn't really care for it. Something about it simply felt tedious to me; like I just kept retracing my steps and not actually making a whole lot of progress. I still made it through alright, but it wasn't as great as everyone seems to think.
