That's...actually a lot of good ideas. Hey, if you wanted a pacifist term, how about 'resolve' instead of fighting spirit?

[up] Indeed.

Or Hearts and Hooves Day.

How often does Pinkie actually break the fourth wall? And no, "being a cartoon character" doesn't count. All I can think of is that thing at the end of the pilot and "Over a Barrel."

Sorry you had a rough week Fallen. My week was maybe a little trying at work, but I finally got my landlord to come by with a contractor to get an estimate at fixing some stuff around the house. I also decided to finally just take a day for myself and get some reading done rather than go to my usual Sunday gaming session. I think taking the time to unwind by reading was just what I needed.

I think those ideas work pretty well, Keg.

Hm... that might work, Apple. Except it sort of would involve fighting, so it's difficult to go fully pacifist about it.

Say, here's an idea for how to solve the tank/DPS issue. Divide attacking into physical and magical, and having the enemies weak against certain types. That way AJ can still be much more useful than twi if the enemy has a huge resistance to magical. Maybe Mental attacks for Shy, as well, since she doesn't really fit either category.

@Pannic: People tend to count her breaking the laws of physics as breaking the fourth wall, but... it doesn't recognize that she's in a cartoon in any way, so it's more people simply misusing the term.

Hi Mio. smile

[up] Yeah that sounds right. Also, is there some way you can deviate between health and toughness?

Like say Twi and AJ have the same health levels...but AJ will last longer because she has higher damage resistance or something?

AJ strikes me as a mook smasher btw.

[up][up] So, Tainted By The Fanbase at its finest, eh?

I don't see it that way though.

EDIT: That's a redlink? I swear we had a trope with that name before.

Exactly. Breaking the fourth wall would be something like addressing the audience or something. Pinkie just indulges in cartoon physics more than the other characters.

[up]We probably did, and it probably got redlinked because it amounted to "license to whine." You know another thing that this site needs to expunge? Dethroning Moment of Suck.

Yeah, I'd probably be more ok with Pinkie if she wasn't so god damn worshipped.

@Kegisak's RPG idea:

The only issue that leaps out at me with the system is that it also turns the tanks into DPS's, since they can launch the most attacks

What does DPS mean?

And I'm glad you're not using the term "Will to Fight"... that means I can use it!The fact that it abbreviates to "WTF" is one of the chief things I like about it

The system you suggest, if it works how I think it does... could get tedious, but one way to alleviate it would be to have Shy and Twi have hair-trigger tempers, meaning their "devastating attack" guage fills up faster. Or else have common enemies be weak enough that you never get as far as that, and that kind of epicness only really comes out during boss battles.

@ginger

Yeah, that kind of stuff has burned me out on Pinkie. And what's worse is it's getting into the show too. I liked yesterday's episode, but the prominence of Pinkie (especially the fortune-teller bit) was easily the weakest part.

Or, to put it another way, Pinkie is getting over-exposed.

Dantes: unless I'm mistaking DZPS is a shortening of Damage per Second.

I too was irritated with the fortune telling bit and most of the rest of Pinkie's behavior this pas episode. She had behaved in a fairly relatable manner just the last episode.

@Apple: thats more likely to be regarded as resolve. AJ is much more firmly set in her goals than Twilight, and so would be less inclined to lose her Fight Spirit over a few small things. So yeah, she'd be much tougher in that respect. So yeah... Resolve or Conviction translates into defense.

@Moe: DPS means Damage Per Second. The term orignates more from MMO's, but it still applies here - it basically just means that they're nukes.

The idea of it being a super is interesting... I had just meant their skills were more expensive, so you'd need to hold them back and heal up their FS so they could use the expensive skills. But having them have lower standard damage, but explosive and expensive moves is an interesting thought, compared to the balanced and stable AJ.

I didn't mind the fortune telling bit in the context of the show, but I just sighed at what this would mean for the fandom, ESPECIALLY her casual, cocky demeanour when she used her Pinkie sense. and the way she started lamphade hanging

On a more positive note, Pony!Starks are so cute!! waii

@Apple: Well, if toughness comes down to their conviction in their beliefes, your three toughest would be AJ, Rarity and Dash, in that order. Each is relatively unflappable, but AJ is stubborn, Rarity is self assured, and Dash is egotistical - the third being the easiest to break.

Hey, that's a good idea! It's like, AJ is solid and stable...but not overly powerful...whereas FS is mostly puny and weak untill the big blow is needed? An odd sort of infight Magikarp power?

[up]

Also good!

Pretty much, yeah. You can use her in mook battles, but she's not that great. Mostyl chip damage. But she's godly in a boss fight because you can hold off for like, 5 turns, then stare the boss into oblivion.

[up]To be fair, getting actual suggestions is mostly gravy. I generally just expected to use you guys as something to talk at while I thought this all out, to be honest.

[down]Twilight's confidence is sort of superficial - she's very, very easy to shake. Similar to Pinkie - solid on the outside, but ti just takes one good hit to get them down.

I know dat feel.

Wouldn't there also be something about breaking Twilight? She's also got the big confident shtick as well. Granted, it's a bit redundant given what goes on in the actual show.
