re: Magic -I'm kinda semi-retired, but I can still deal a mean deck. Most of my decks tend to have some degree of tourney-level optimization and I tend to build my decks with a degree of seasonal restrictions in mind. Still got my winning Tooth and Nail deck with me, the one that won me some Friday Night Magic rounds :D Now less artifact hate and more Sundering Titan thanks to the deck's evolution to fit the Mirrodin-Kamigawa era.

Yu-Gi-Oh still baffles me to this day. It panders to young players with it's style, but the actual gameplay, rules, and mechanics are far too convoluted and complicated for its target audience to fully understand (I know I sure as hell didn't when I was 12), and yet is still incredibly popular.

I think the appeal is in the convoluted rules: The youngsters want to feel like they can pull some trick their opponent never thought of at any time, just like the kids they saw in the anime.
