I think Olive wood is pretty nice.

Haven't read Harry Potter in forever. I remember they were enjoyable, although I wasn't a big fan of the teen drama sections.

Balsa wood is nice. I like pine, too.

But balsa wood is so soft. It's like wood colored sytrofoam.

Actually yeah, Rarity and RD could work as good Slytherians.

Rarity would not be able to stand the decor in the Slytherin dormatories. She'd be in Ravenclaw or the catchall house Hufflepuff.

Slytherin isn't necessarily evil, they're mostly ambitious, but with people like Tom Riddle, that can lead to evil.

I just stopped liking it when Voldermort became an incompetent idiot (noticing a pattern here?!)

Plus, none of the charaters really appealed to me.

What magic subjects do you think they'd be good at?

Have you read Methods Of Rationality? Mo R!Voldemort is definitely not incompetent.

My knowledge of wood is limited to Minecraft. [lol]

I like using birch to decorate my houses every now and then. And adding some cobblestone to line the walls so nothing gets set on fire.

Fluttershy would Excel in Care of Magical Creatures

Apple Jack would do well in Herbology

Pinkie Pie - Divination

Twilight would be an all around good student

RD - would drop out because there are better things to do. Like the Weasley Twins.

Rarity - Charms

I would say:

Gryffindor: Rainbow Dash (brave and a show off)

Hufflepuff: Applejack, Fluttershy (both really nice and hard workers)

Ravenclaw: Twilight (duh)

Slytherin: Rarity (she's kind of hard to place, but she would be a nice Slytherin, she's definitely very ambitious at least)

Pinkie Pie would stay under the hat for such a long time that the hat would eventually give up and just sort her into a new "Party House." (In other words, I have absolutely no idea for this one)

Also, I now want to see a Harry Potter and My Little Pony parody ><

@story Can't read fanfics unless I print em out remember?

Nan won't be lettin' me do that after Fallout Equestria

[up] Isn't Ravenclaw marked by creativity as well as interlligence? (hence Luna Lovegood)

Oh hey I have returned from sleep.

Somehow watching an LP of Skyward Sword makes me think of an Equestrian Pegasi village in the clouds :3

Also, Freeman you should add the God-Empress Lauren Faust to your list.

Mine mostly comes from Runescape.

Anyway, I think people have printed out HP Mo R before, but it's definitely a doorstopper.

Yeah. The defining qualities of slytherin were drive and ambition. Not necessarily bad things, and both RD and Rarity have demonstrated them pretty hardcore.

Fluttershy would obviously go for herbology and Hagrid's monsters class. Twi would probably excel at potions, since it's the most scientific in nature. RD would tune out of school and put everything into quidditch. AJ would probably be good at herbology as well. Pinkie would likely have the most fun with transmogrification and charms, and Rarity would like transmogrification as well. I can't remember anything beyond the basic classes...

I enjoy the books, like I said, but the movies are completely beyond me. Not because I don't like them - they're very well done. I can't watch them because it's far too surreal for me - Daniel Radcliff looks exactly like my older brother. It just boggles the mind. It's too strange for me to really get into them.

In two weeks I'm going to start my first semester of school at the Violin Making School of America. I've been seriously considering using the opportunity to start a tumblr blog detailing my experiences there and the stuff I learn. Is that something you guys would find interesting?

I know some Minecraft because of:

  1. Our Trope Page for it
  2. I've played a little of the free Lite Version on my iPod Touch and a demo iPad at Challenger
  3. I've enjoyed Nakateleeli's LP of it
  4. So many amusing videos of megaprojects and silly hijinks involving fire and TNT Blocks
  5. This Pony Mod vid

I'm a bit curious about what violin making is like as well.

@ Kegi Your brother looks just like Daniel?? Now THAT is weird.

As for classes they would excel in:

Twilight: Everything that is not physical. Potions and Transfiguration in particular.

Rarity: A little above average in everything, but I think she would be good at Charms, since she's both charming and you can use Charms to change your appearance and for regular little things like levitation and stuff.

Rainbow Dash: Nothing except Quiditch. I suspect a Weasley twins situation where she's actually really smart (she does well on tests) but rarely studies.

Fluttershy: Care of Magical Creatures of course! She would get good enough grades on everything else, just nothing particularly outstanding

Pinkie Pie: Divination and Muggle Studies (since she can break the 4th wall). She would be okay or good at everything else.

Applejack: A Neville Longbottom here. She would be good at Herbology and okay or mediocre at everything else.

I just realized I'm digging too much into it... ><

Yeah CDRW, That'd be cool.

@Crow: The difference is about the same. Except instead of being a man-mountain of fat, I'm just a man-mountain. Half a foot taller than my brother, and 125 pounds heavier. Mostly muscle.

Remember to protect yourself from the fumes of varnish, CDRW. I recall some old cartoon showing accurately the symptoms of varnish fume inhalation on an old-era violin maker, and it was not pleasant.
