My full contribution to the discussion is this though: Symphony of the Night was a masterpiece I replay at least once every 3 years. All other Castlevania games are awful (totally just an opinion here).

Isn't that the one that ruined the series by being so popular that they made all subsequent Castlevania games just like it?
