What does everyone think about Equestrian Government?

It might just be my American born ingrained fear of single power styles of goverment, but I like to think that there is a elected Parliamentary, that Celestia has been the head for the last thousand years being reelected each new term again and again.

I just link hopping between blogs. The one I started on was perfectly innocent. Not the one I eventually reached. It wouldn't have been a big deal to be fair, but I am not alone in the house, and I don't think I would be able to explain what I am looking at if someone walked in on me.

@L Mage: For some reason I thought you were British...

Anyway, I think it's pretty much as shown: Celestia is the absolute ruler, her word is law. Yeah, that's pretty terrifying if you get an untrustworthy ruler, but Celestia does just fine. Sure she's got to have underlings that handle minor details, but I think she still has total power. Personally I think that would be a wonderful style of government, provided one could actually find a decent ruler (which, in this world, isn't likely).

@L Mage: My headcanon is that Equestria actually has a pretty complex government, but ultimately the power rest with Celestia (and Luna?).

@ Equestrian Government:

Celestia has authority over everything. Then high ranking nobles manage sections of Equestria e.g. Prince Blueblood, The Magnificent. They have authority over the lower ranking nobles.

Yeah, dictatorship isn't that bad a form of government....if the leader is benevolent, which pretty much never happens in reality. Celestia is a good enough person that she can be trusted with that power, but in real life I don't think I'd give that kind of power to anyone.

I don't think Luna has any official authority right now. And I think it is rather wise of Celestia to not trust her with anything important, not until she's proved that she has changed. Of course, being a Princess is enough authority that most ponies would automatically obey her, regardless of official power.

@Bad Wolf Who: I don't know. I don't think that Equestrian nobility actually has all that much power, or at least they don't exercise it. Maybe Canterlot is actually an Equestrian version of Versailles and Celestia really is the Sun King.

Well they all ultimately answer to Celestia so while they can manage their respective realms they can't introduce new laws etc without her permission
