That seems to be more true of this season then last, where, if I remember correctly Ms. Faust actually had reservations about having an actual train engine in the series. She seemed to have wanted more of a fantasy setting and where electricity was need she assumed it was magic.

I still don't see what the actual point of that train engine was. Since it's pulled by Earth Ponies

According to her it was there because the train wouldn't have looked like a train without it.

They got annoyed about how weak was that engine and decided to pull it themselves faster.

I like to think the boiler sprung a leak on the way to Appleloosa and they stopped the engine and got out and pulled.

It doesn't mean they shoot X-Rays out of their eyes, it means they can see in the UV-to-Gamma spectrum.

I Like the Fallout Equestria take on pony powered steam engines, the coal need to run them is fairly rare, so they use pony power on flat terrain, and just use the engine when going up steep hills or other places it would be very tiring to pull it.

Twilight had a flashlight as early as Look Before You Sleep. And they had lampshades and implied lightswitches way back in the first episode.

Are we assuming that Unicorn magic=radiation in general? That probably means that cancer would be pretty common.

I doubt it; if it was that dangerous they wouldn't use it so much. I might be possible to make use of it that way, but I doubt that's the default state.

Technology developed differently even in different Earth cultures. For something as biologically different as ponies who have magic, you can't really expect their technology to have developed at the same rate and in the same order.

Now we need Ozymandias to try convincing everypony that magic causes cancer.

^ We might expect their technology to develop in a way that is actually usable without hands however. This isn't exactly Hard AH.

ugh, ok an X-ray gives out between 900-1000 mRad of gamma radiation, which corelates to the same amount of mRem's since for gamma radiation Rad=Rem (Rad is actual amount of radiation, Rem is the amount of damage it does) so worst case it's one Rem per shot. It takes 70-100 Rem of exposure without 24 hours to even BEGIN showing any signs of radiation sicknes, and closer to 200 for any series results, 500 is the cut off for any sort of lethal reactions within any sort of relative time frame.

So simply being able to do X-Rays, not the best source of radiation weapon, now, if you had the ability to control Neutron radiation, then you'd be a serious threat, but gamma rays are just to non-reactive.
