I still like my theory from a while back that donkeys have much longer lifespans than ponies. If that were the case it's quite possible that he was looking for Matilda for a very long time, and it took quite a toll on him.

are we assuming they've always been human, or they were ponies that became human? Cause i'd be real intreted in how the pony's would react to clothing like humans were if they ever came over here and tried to blend in.

I still like imagining a nude beach scenario (humanized of course). Just cuz I like imagining which members of the cast (mane cast or no) would go along with it
Pinkie would definitely be in.
Rainbow Dash would think of it as a challenge, and say "Oh, yeah!".
Fluttershy would blush at the idea.
Rarity might jump at the chance to show off her fabulous body.
Twilight would need some coaxing from the others.
I'm not sure about Applejack.
