I'm more a gen4 trainer learning up on gen5, but my trusty Scizor still Atatatatatatatatata punches his way up to the top with his Technician-powered Bullet Punch.
I was never very knowledgeable about the pokemon mechanics when I was a kid. I would just take one pokemon and grind to the point where it could beat everyone.
Which is an especially difficult feat in yellow, since Butterfree sucks.

My favourite Pokemon is Rock Head Aggron with Focus Sash, Head Smash and Rock Polish. He one shotted an Arceus my friend brought to battle (we'd agreed before hand no legendaries.)
