[up][up][up][up][up][up] I think there's magic in the parchment itself, and needing a dragon is just for the sake of convenience. I think fire is all that's needed to activate the teleportation (Spike's flames burn other books normally), it's just that twilight never has a lit fire readily available when she can just use spike.

All of egophiliac's stuff is great, by the way. Look! It's that theory we talked about a few pages back!

[up][up] Spike's flames have transported Gala tickets and a pot of invisible ink as well. Are those magic too?

[up] Maybe the items themselves aren't manufactured to be magical. What if there's some sort of enchantment spell that can be used to give sufficiently small items that property?

I'd imagine that things only get sent when Spike intends them to be - thus, he burned the pages of Twilight's book when he sneezed accidentally, but scrolls and everything else he send to Celestia gets there just fine.

^^ Not necessarily. Remember when he hiccuped an armful of scrolls on Celestia after Pinkie and Rainbow pranked him?
But apart, all we are is just a pile of mush and some crumbly dry mess...

This. also how does Celestia send them back? That's why I think any fire can be used as long as the item is enchanted, she could just lob it into her fireplace

The only time Spike's fire-breath has been shown to teleport anything is when he uses it on Celestia's scrolls. In every other instance of his use of fire-breath, it's behaved like normal fire.

My guess is that the answer is somewhere in the middle; objects in general can be magically teleported, and Spike's fire breath is one usable method. Regarding the feasibility of Derpy's postman job: It's possible that even if the magic doesn't require Spike to work, it could still be fancy/expensive/complex enough that only certain ponies (i.e. the royal family) can use it with regularity. The only ponies who ever use the magic scrolls are Celestia and Twilight, so it might just be that they're using some sort of exclusive magic for it.

On the other hand, it could just be that Celestia has other dragons in her palace (Twilight's probably not the only pony ever to pass the hatching test), or that her god-like abilities enable her to send the scrolls without needing a dragon.

I'm afraid the teleporting fire behaves according to Rule of Funny tongue I'd prefer there to be mailponies just because I think it fits the Ponyville esthetic; the village is modern enough, but still fairy-tale. I'm cool with Twilight being the only one with a quicker system.

Speaking of Rule of Funny, I actually found this fanfic snickerworthy: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/07/story-elements-of-awesomery.html Its strange style is supposed to be a point, but I guess what it was rather quickly, so I assume others will do it much faster (I'm a bit daft). it's a real person fanfic written by Pinkie Might contain Shipping.

I think it's funnier to imagine a coverless astronomy book and a container of popcorn randomly popping into Celestia's room.

[up][up][up] think about it this way. We have multiple methods of passing on information (even if some are more popular or efficient than others) People could just Email everything, yet some of us still use written letters. Maybe it's just an aesthetic thing, someponies CHOOSE to have it delivered rather than teleported. Or maybe the pegasus delivery service ships mainly to towns without unicorns (or unicorns that don't know the proper procedure)

Actually, I wonder how many unicorns pass the hatching test, and what they do with their dragons. What if it's a test that most, if not all, fail, but they grade the trying of it rather than the success?

Also, where do they get the Dragon eggs?

Dragons aren't evil, the ones we've seen are just a little territorial. Maybe Mother Dragons donate the eggs?

I like the idea that there's something wrong with dragons, like a sickness or something, that prevents their eggs from hatching naturally, so they give them to ponies.

Could be a simple requirement for magic in the hatching, which reminds me of a certain series.

If only Twilight Sparkle had a white mane.

Reptiles in general aren't very big on caring for their young, if I recall right. Maybe Celestia's reached an agreement with the dragon species in Equestria along the lines of taking unwanted eggs off the mothers' hands?

I have teory that Wingless Dragons are friend with Ponies and give eggs to Elite Uniconr School becaus of their alliance.

Other teory that dragons simply don't care about their younglings, they lay hundrets of egs and only few survive to become adult. So taking dragon egg is simple.

That sounds feesible.

[up] but the dragons don't seem to be bad people, look at spike. I don't think he'd just leave dragons eggs lying around

[up]I never said evil, they just don't care about baby dragons (in that teory every female can have thousend babies so It good thing that they don't protect them). And Spike is raised by ponies so he is not typical example of dragon.

And that one theory, other sugest that wingless dragon are good and care about babies.

Spike's character can't be taken as proof of anything general. He was apparently raised among ponies, and the two dragons we've seen that live in nature were both jerks at the very least.

The first one was just tired and only got pissed when: first Rarity came in and tried to nick his stuff, then RD waltzed in and kicked him in the face.

And the second was upset at somebody breaking into his house.

Not to mention the serpent in the river, he was grateful.

But sure, it's possible Dragons have a diverse genus (including possibly the Hydra), or that their biology is not concerned with nurturing their young. Who knows?
