Even so, it just seems like the kind of thing D would do to screw with them, it plays on Luna's insecurits and puts the burden of guilt on oh so proud Celestia.

I like to think that they reforged the ancient Rainbow of Light with the Fires of Friendship to make the Elements of Harmony.

It'd also make ponies feel bad about falling in love.

while I think we're getting way to sure about stuff we have no clue of with assuming it involved the Royal Sisters or Discord...

...Celestia said herself that her and Luna were only able to stop Discord after discovering the Elements.

I like to think that the pony statues along with Discord sacrificed themselves to buy time for the Princess Sisters to finish him off or something, like say distracting him, so they had a clear shot.

Personally I like to think that the statues were the ponies that followed Discord.

There's no evidence to support different 'schools' of magic, though. Twilight refers to her spells by number, not by Conjuration/Alteration/Evocation or whatever her latest counts as.

^Uh, the statues are lionized as representing the virtues of Equestria. Why would they be given virtues and places of honor in the Canterlot gardens if they were Chaos adherents?

I wouldn't say that magic is inherently harmonious. Blasting someone with a fireball can't run on harmony, obviously, and the Elements don't make ordinary magic stronger or anything like that. I think it's just that chaos fucks with all natural forces except entropy - gravity, electromagnetic forces, harmony, magic, etc.

Well, Celestia DID keep Discord out in the yard too, even though he represented Discord.

Most likely victory over Discord.

Anyways modern ponies don't seem to show Elemental Magic very much, apart from pegasi coaxing out rain and lightning from clouds and Twi doing a Rapidash impersonation.

Magic could roughly be classified as harmonious and discordian. Things like healing magics, or creation or mending could be said to be harmonious (as they bring things together), while things like fireballs and transmogrification could be considered discordian (because they take things apart, or are naturally chaotic and changing).

@ginger: Mm... alright, fair point. Elements didn't come in their final form until after Discord. Could have metaphorical, but I won't press the issue. Still, it doesn't change the fact that Discord just likes to fuck with ponies for fun, though. He's not a very direct person, when he can manage.

My point is, they look too composed and serious to have been stoned by the Elements, and Celestia and Luna don't turn ponies to stone.

Or just victory in general, or the representation of Discord's victory over Ponies.

Celestia's garden being full of fallen enemies works great as a threat to anyone who would challenge Equestria.

Discord implied they did and Celestia didn't argue.

Idea for Season 3 big bad...

A new version of the G1 villian Gogar...who's shockingly close to Darksiad!

They rip his/her way into Equestria from another dimension. Is completely invulnerable to everything, even the elements, but they must keep an item of power on them to allow them to actually exist on this reality.

If the Eo H hit this item, they defuse it...and they'll be hurled right back to hell.

They also bring an army with them...monster robots which are what happens when Darleks meet the T101 in pony form.

@Badlight: Does Discord ever use the phrase 'everypony' or 'everyone' (or variants thereof)? That's a good point you make, and I want to make sure he wasn't just saying 'I don't turn people to stone' about himself.

I'm pretty sure the line was 'But of course you wouldn't know that since I don't turn ponies into stone!'
