That's my whole point. The apple family just left their farm, as though it was part of the deal that the brothers get it for free.

Anyway, isn't it kinda odd that the Flim Flam brothers are called that? Flim Flam is a term for a con, but they aren't con artists at all. They're assholes, but they weren't lying about anything or trying to trick anyone. They were pretty upfront about everything. And their machine really works.

They weren't just leaving it, they were selling it to the Flim Flam brothers.

We were renting a building on our town's Main Street, but that's beside the point. I just felt like pointing out the episode actually hit close to home with me because we had to give up the building cause we couldn't make enough money during the winter.

Point is they needed the money from the cider to make it through the winter. Without the cider money, no farm or business.

I just saw it...

Let me start by saying...I will make sure to have every episode of this show preserved in some shape or form, so that if I have kids in the distant future...they can watch it.

Second of all...this was an absolutely out standing episode...I loved every minute of it:

Check the episode again - no-one independently verifies that the brothers Cider isn't absolutely terrible. Rainbow Dash was the only one offered a mug, and she dropped it before she could drink it.

That, and the fact that they're travelling sales ponies who, despite having this automated wonder, haven't found a town to settle in, tells us that the thing was a con. They knew their machine was shit, but they were trying to sell it to the Apple family for a gigantic cut of their profits. When that didn't work, they manipulated them into giving the brothers a monopoly on the town.

All right, I'm starting a tumblr so I can follow these pony blogs.

Yeah, that thing about how the Apples just up and abandon the farm when they lose is my one major gripe about the episode. Even if they do need the cider sales to make it through the winter, I can't imagine them just dropping the farm completely; I'd think that they'd keep all the other parts of the farm up and running and look for some other product to sell or have AJ and Big Mac take alternate jobs during the winter or something. The cider production is important, but it's far from the only thing that the farm produces.

@JT we don't know the machinations of this farm, and judging by how ravenous the townsfolk get over their cider, it's quite possible that that's the ONLY product capable of producing the revenue needed to stay afloat. It's the only product with that amount of demand going for it
