I just feel like AJ made a bit too much of a deal over the money thing. I mean, I would've imagined that she would have explained to her friends what happened and maybe just asked them not to tell the other ponies, not to run away. — Japanese Teeth
But it wasn't the money, it was her pride. Everyone was depending on Applejack, so she felt as if failed. She's recognized as being the most dependable pony in Ponyville, and that's besides her honesty.
That is a lot of pressure. imo
AJ and RD have a 'win-at-all-cost mentality' that they need tone down.

@Blue: Yeah, I saw that. It looks basically like a crepe, to me. Which is cool. I like crepes.
As much as a I loved this episode I think it exentuated one of the biggest oversights in the series. Applejack and Rainbowdash better imbody each others elements.
They fixed the money issue by having the Mayor pimp out AJ.
I'MA RAPE YA, BITCH!
But she crippled by her sense of loyalty here, she couldn't stand the thought of letting those that where depending on her down and went to work rather then fail them.
She wasn't planning to leave forever, only until she'd made the money to fix town hall.

Land Games . It's a sort of Homestuck/Starcraft kind of thing.
Honesty and Loyalty aren't too similar in definition, but when applied in normal situations, the honest friend and the loyal friend usually act the same way. AJ and RD's personalities are different enough that they react differently, but it can be pretty easy for one to embody the element of the other simply due to how similar their elements are applied.
Yup, she could have blatantly lied and sent a letter about how she won the Rodeo in first place and got all the money, but she didn't. She left with the task of contributing to the the Town Hall and wasn't going to return until she got it done by whatever means.
Some ppl on tumblr say it goes against her honesty trait, but I don't agree.

Okay, finished the episode. It was pretty good, and I can agree with Applejack in promising to do everything she was hoping to do, and not doing it, and being too ashamed to come back without doing something of worth.
So, someone tell me Ginger's thoughts on it.
Also, I think it should be Cherrychanga.
Tick Tock, goes the clock/ He cradled and he rocked her/ Tick Tock, goes the clock/Till River kills the Doctor.
Weren't we dropping that? I do believe we were, night shift folks.
Anyway, I doubt AJ was going to be gone forever. She just wanted to make the money to repair the town hall, and I imagine she would have been coming back after that. She wouldn't give up on her family and Sweet Apple Acres forever because she got second place in a bloody Canterlot rodeo.
