[up][up] I was refering to RD [lol]

[up] Yeah, I dislike her (what I percieve to be) overpoweredness, but then the same thing can be said of Twilight. Doesn't stop me from liking them most of the time

pagetopper (my overall reaction to Ditzy in this ep)

I just feel like AJ made a bit too much of a deal over the money thing. I mean, I would've imagined that she would have explained to her friends what happened and maybe just asked them not to tell the other ponies, not to run away. — Japanese Teeth

But it wasn't the money, it was her pride. Everyone was depending on Applejack, so she felt as if failed. She's recognized as being the most dependable pony in Ponyville, and that's besides her honesty.

That is a lot of pressure. imo

AJ and RD have a 'win-at-all-cost mentality' that they need tone down.

[up][up] I figured that would be made quickly. Is does sound good if you've ever had mountain pies though. It would just be deep fried instead of baked in cast iron.

[up] I interpret AJ's logic there as not wanting to make a liar out of herself. She promised to bring home money, so she wasn't coming home or talking to her friends about it until she had said money. Anything less than that would be betraying everyone's trust in her.

Now, of course she should have told her friends, but that's a known flaw in her character.

As much as a I loved this episode I think it exentuated one of the biggest oversights in the series. Applejack and Rainbowdash better imbody each others elements.

I still think the honesty issue is a big thing. she likes to keep her word at all costs, because otherwise that makes he a liar (in her head)

[up]applejack is a rule lawyer about her honesty. I think it would be easier for the writters to exchange their elements

They fixed the money issue by having the Mayor pimp out AJ.

But she crippled by her sense of loyalty here, she couldn't stand the thought of letting those that where depending on her down and went to work rather then fail them.

[up][up] can't the mayor just pimp herself out? tongue

[up] I don't think so. If it was loyalty then she wouldn't have decided to leave forever. (which is what the letter implied)

Hell, why couldn't she pimp her secretary out?

Ooh wait, I know! They needed a lot to get enough money, and Aj is the only one with the endurance. The mayor has plenty of experience, but she gets tired easily. And she's still showing her secretary the ropes~...

She wasn't planning to leave forever, only until she'd made the money to fix town hall.

Honesty and Loyalty aren't too similar in definition, but when applied in normal situations, the honest friend and the loyal friend usually act the same way. AJ and RD's personalities are different enough that they react differently, but it can be pretty easy for one to embody the element of the other simply due to how similar their elements are applied.

Yup, she could have blatantly lied and sent a letter about how she won the Rodeo in first place and got all the money, but she didn't. She left with the task of contributing to the the Town Hall and wasn't going to return until she got it done by whatever means.

Some ppl on tumblr say it goes against her honesty trait, but I don't agree.

[up][up][up] Her letter said that she'd be SENDING money shortly, not that she'd be coming back once she'd earned it. I got the impression that she'd just be mailing money to ponyville. Never once did she say that she'd ever be returning.

Cuz she still lied. (in her head) She said that she'd be returning with a blue ribbon but she didn't

Okay, finished the episode. It was pretty good, and I can agree with Applejack in promising to do everything she was hoping to do, and not doing it, and being too ashamed to come back without doing something of worth.

So, someone tell me Ginger's thoughts on it.

Also, I think it should be Cherrychanga.

Weren't we dropping that? I do believe we were, night shift folks.

Anyway, I doubt AJ was going to be gone forever. She just wanted to make the money to repair the town hall, and I imagine she would have been coming back after that. She wouldn't give up on her family and Sweet Apple Acres forever because she got second place in a bloody Canterlot rodeo.
