She was only a jerk in MMDW and Return of Harmony part 2, and the latter wasn't even voluntary. She's firmly been a Jerk with a Heart of Gold in all other episodes.

It's because RD isn't a jerk. She's sometimes bad at picking up on other ponies feelings, and she never knows how to react to surprises outside of her areas of expertise, but jerks have malice, and there isn't a malicious bone in her body.
