I go with option D with a little bit of Chessmastery thrown in as well. I bet she realized that they would've quickly run out of food, and was counting on them to discover the Zap Apple trees when they inevitably went to the forest in search of food. Because they were such good farmers, she had confidence that they could learn grow and harvest the trees properly

Yeah Celestia seems to be the kind of mentor that just guides you indirectly instead of solving everything herself
Option D totally fits her.

Well obviously, the last thing she'd want is for her subjects to get complacent. It reminds me of that quote from futurama:
"Bender, being God isn't easy. If you do too much, people get dependent on you. And if you do nothing, they lose hope. You have to use a light touch, like a safecracker or a pickpocket.""Or a guy who burns down a bar for the insurance money.""Yes, if you make it look like an electrical thing. When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all."

Love this explanation :D
Also, plan D is always best plan. Well, it may be because my plan D always stands for "Destroy every-frakkin-thing on the way, then sideway. Then go back and destroy it some more.".

Dr. Hooves is in the service of Princess Celestia because she and Luna where former compaions of his. They met when he went back in time to when the three tribes of ponies where one tribes Alicorns. He found the daughters of their leaders and took them on a long adventure through time that ended with him leaving them during Discord's reign so they could rise up and returns order and harmony to pony kind. He vists Princess C from time time to help her with her Xanatos Gambit
EDIT: Fixed

Sorr Mage but...Even after 3 reading I still don't understand what you tried to say here xD
Except for the Princesses being Whooves' companions. Which is totally my headcanon from now on.

I bet Celestia puts an intense amount of thought into pretty much EVERYTHING she says. I like to think that she can deduce exactly how her words will end up affecting the ponies she's speaking to. She's fully aware that the slightest slip up in her enunciation or inflection could end up RUINING her subject's life forever.
So she always has to think about it. Such constant strain on her mind while also maintaining a sunny, positive disposition must wreak HAVOC on her psyche.

Well, she IS a thousands of years old goddess. I'd say she can handle it just fine. High wisdom scores because of old age and all that.
#66611gingerninja 666Sat, 7th Jan '12 3:35:51 PMfrom Aboard The Damocles
I don't know. I'd say her age and sky high wisdom stats are the only reason she's still SANE.
I highly doubt it's easy for her to live like that. Never being allowed to simply speak her mind

Sort of fixed, I am doing a lot of things and posting at the same time so some of the stuff I say might be a bit garbeled.

Probably not easy, but since Equestria is pretty much the closest thing you can get to Utopia, she's doing just fine.
#66617gingerninja 666Sat, 7th Jan '12 3:45:50 PMfrom Aboard The Damocles
@Kayeka Ever considered that maybe it's only a utopia because of all the Princess' hard work?
She's spent a 1000 years living in both the shadow of her subjects, and as their ruler. Subtly manipulating them behind the scenes while also gently encouraging them to evolve in certain ways as their monarch for centuries.

I don't think there's been a Hearts and Hooves Synopsis yet. But if Pinkie gets a full, 3-minute song all to herself in Baby Cakes, then it's her episode for sure. So I'm kinda hoping that'll be the one.
You know what's weird? Not long ago both AJ and Pinkie were competing for last place on my ranking of the mane cast. Now, they're pretty close to the top.
I've always liked think of gods as being literally built to be chessmasters. Not only do they have superpowered magic, their minds are about am million times faster. They can literally think out every situation with almost pinpoint accuracy. The gods' favourite game is chess. Played over a period of ten years. In the dark.

@kegi I don't know. I think it kinda undermines Celestia's achievments if her Magnificence is just a trait that's typical of her race.
It'd be like if Sherlock Holmes was from a race of aliens that ALL have his EXACT mental capabilities. It kinda ruins his uniqueness
I just think there are times when it catches up to her.

I like to think that the only real perk Celestia got from being a God is immortality and possibly a high dose of raw magic power. Everything else is her hard work and experience.
I also think she's one of the younger, less powerful gods in the Pony universe.
#66624gingerninja 666Sat, 7th Jan '12 3:58:00 PMfrom Aboard The Damocles
Exactly! and I think the process of aquiring all that experience has left some deep psychological scars.
I think of it kinda like a mental version of Superman's World Of Cardboard. She has to constantly be careful about what she plans and what she says, because she could end up ruining everything that she holds dear.
I think she's relatively low on the power chart as well. Take Negima as an example.
She's Takamichi and Discord is Jack Rakan

Word Of God, or at least Word of Faust (and JUST realized the horrid pun implied there, unintentional) who is the first to say her ideas are not official cannon, said that Celestia, while not fully able to see the future, does get little flashes, or hints about things that she's learned how and when to act on. Such as setting Twi's entrance exam to be hatching a dragon egg.
I figured she showed them the land, because she saw how tired and exhausted they were, but that they were willing to work hard to sustain themselves if given the chance. She just happened to be in the market that day on a whim(or flash of, "hey I should do this"), but she seems the type to do that, just randomly wander around and talk to the common-ponies. Then she saw the Smith family and had another flash that told her to set them up in the big open land near the Everfree forest.
Build a fool proof system, and the world will create a better fool.
