Ah, anywho, there are a LOT of ways to write ditz characters, and the key to write them is always write them in refreshing and surprising ways. That's the hard part. You have to have very few running gags.

two of the same pony type have a child, the child is the same type as the parents (Pegasi+Pegasi=Pegasi)

two ponies of different types have a child, the child is the third type of pony. (Pegasi+Unicorn=Earth Pony)

What if instead of being purely genome-based, the pony-type of the foal is also affected by the mother's race and biothaumical condition? It could be a bit of a die-roll that determines whether the resulting foal is Earth, Wind, or Mystic. They'd be more likely to inherit Mum's race, but may also be affected by the balance of magic or something like that.

Hmmmm, time to meditate on this. Will post later on the fanon thread.

I'm currently cruising along with my tablet loaded with all of Season one and some of Season Two. Mwahahaha.

@Ginger : because the foal spends gestation in mum. Dad also has an effect on the foal's race upon conception, but mum and the environment have a greater influence over the gestation period.

Let me guess, it's one of those early "budget" tablets from some dodgy Mainland manufacturer which costs under 200 dollars and has a terrible resistive touch screen and worse battery life.

I spent a good portion of my paycheck on the tablet in my hands and spent the rest of the month subsisting on sandviches and junk food. True otaku spirit: never look at the price when buying something really important. Yes, I'm paraphrasing Genshiken here.

Do lab unicorns have anything like a slate computer?

You should waited, now there are some fairly solid Froyo or Gingerbread powered tablets from the likes of Lenovo and Viewsonic. I'm stuck for now in a fairly annoying retail day job, but at least I get to learn my tech and get insider tech news from the retail end :D

I still think Ditzy is a cuter name than Derpy, but I can deal with it.

@Ginger: dads get to manipulate the mum's diet and maybe take her somewhere nice to influence the baby's growth :D

Yes, but gender is uncontrollable. It'll either be a guy, or a girl, no one can influence that fact. The race, according to your theory, IS controllable, and ultimately, the mother gets to choose that.

What if the mum desperately wants a unicorn but the dad desperately wants a pegasus? The mum will end up getting what she wants
