Eh, I didn't like The Ticket Master very much. It felt like it played too many of the tropes that Faust, et all were trying to defy, straight. In other words; it felt like a stereotypical, poorly done, girl's cartoon.

lol

Actually, Ticket Master is up there in my top ten, if not top five. I liked how it played off on Twilight's need to please her friends. It helps to show that she still has some blooming to do as far as being a social butterfly.

[up][up]Celestia, I think its less the fact you sent her to the moon and more the fact you didn't bother to do anything to help her for a thousand years. And even then only because she broke out on her own.

Related.

THAT was the first episode I saw.

And the rest, as they say, is history

Eh...a lot of the earlier episodes felt weaker, to me. I thought they stated to get good around Winter Wrap up, and they weren't bad before that, they were just kinda meh.

I was never a fan of Owl's Well That Ends Well.

...Which is weird because Spike was one of the first characters I really liked. I can't imagine why.

I've never really liked Griffon the Brush-off. Mostly because I can't stand Gilda, for pretty much all the reasons Pannic gave for not liking Trixie.

[up]Possibly because that episode has Spike lose a fight with a chicken.

The buffalo episode I didn't like too much.

My fav, after the pilot, is a toss up between Bird in the Hoof and Party of One

Yeah, the Buffalo episode was a tad too heavy with the anvil.

Also; I enjoyed this more than I should have.

Oddly, Ticketmaster was one of my favorites the first time I saw it, but after rewatching it, I didn't like it that much.

I liked Ticket Master. I think my least favorite one is Boast Busters.

Griffon the Brush-Off, I similarly don't like Gilda, though I liked that episode for the most part - until the end when they feel the need to specifically point out each of the practical jokes.

Well yeah, the meaner the antagonist, the more fun it is to see their comeuppance.

I was surprised to see people defend episode 4 over episode 3 some time ago. "The Ticket Master" was cool to me just for seeing how all the ponies described their dream gala, establishing their personalities better, while "Applebuck Season" annoyed me by being too obvious too soon. It's like "Yeah, yeah, I get it, Applejack has taken on too much work, and she's going to muck up all the jobs she volunteered for out of fatigue, and she won't listen to reason until the very end. Let's just hope the muck-ups are funny." Eh, well, the stampedes were kind of funny...

Maybe it's just that I find Twilight Sparkle harder to predict than I should. "Winter Wrap Up" was another "series of failures" plot, but I was still rooting for Twilight to succeed at something the whole time. I must not have guessed the ending because I'm too used to stupid jokes about how people who want to "supervise" really just want to sit around doing nothing, so I was positively surprised to see the show acknowledge that proper management is a real and important skill. Then Twilight picked up the Idiot Ball sometime in "Feeling Pinkie Keen" and seriously confused me by the end.

[up][up]I also prefer Ticket Master over Applebuck Season.

And yeah, the antagonist should be a jerk, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be entertaining. Trixie was an ass, but I still liked her. Gilda just bugged me.

Applebuck Season entertains me because it is one of the few episodes of anything I've seen (which is probably not very much) that revolves around someone being sleepdepped out of their mind.

I liked the fantasies in The Ticket Master, though if I watch it again they may be rendered Harsher in Hindsight.

I like Applebuck Season because it makes the climax of Look Before You Sleep particularly poignant.
But apart, all we are is just a pile of mush and some crumbly dry mess...

I was watching old episodes of The Nostalgia Critic today and came across these sage words of wisdom. It sums up perfectly why Friendship is Magic is so successful.

"Just because something is intended for younger kids doesn't give you the right not to try. If you're really good at something you can make anything entertaining and anything plausible no matter how absurd. I'm the Nostalgia Critc. Now if you'll excuse me my neverending search for Pot-Land continues."

Haha, I know how you feel, I keep wondering if I'd retract any of my statements because I forgot something important due to only watching every episode once.

My favourite is Cutie Mark Chronicles (I've probably watched it upward of 20 times now). It has my favourite Twilight moment, where, as the trope page puts it, she's just plain 'adorkable.' Add to that ridiculously cute filly Fluttershy and I'm already melted even before we take into account the other sequences.
