I think the blizzard will create a food shortage...and only the E Ps can save the day...they get out there and fight toget the crops in whilst the others cower in their shelters...so the other races promise to stop abusing them.

By my reckoning, Earth Ponies are the explorers, engineers, and pioneers of Equestria, as well as its entire farming industry.

Unicorns have no need of mechanisms except for magical artifacts and stuff that needs telekinesis to function, so other kinds of machinery are usually championed by the Earth Ponies. Their natural physical abilities and passive nurturing magics make them perfect for striking out to tame new lands to make them more habitable for ponies.

Possible EP powers: Geology in a Sense form (precursor to Pinkie Sense), Water-sensing (Might be a Zebra power as well and associated with Geology-sense and Pinkie-sense), Green Thumb (see also: Applejack), Stone Wall toughness (Demonstrated by the older Apple siblings), Royal Canterlot Voice (Passive empowerment of voice coupled with strong lungs), Perfect Climbing Power (comparable to a mountain goat's ability to scale cliffs as steep as Akiha Tohno), Passive Camouflage (Pinkie demonstrates this numerous times as well, hiding in a bowl of sponges, a church bell, and other things besides, all without being found out).

Passive powers can be awesome too :V

If E Ps are the ONLY race capable of growing food, then Cloudsdale must require A LOT of trading between them and the ground

Passive powers generally aren't flashy though. That's the only thing I'm worried about

Either Cloudsdale has lots of Airships, or they have some seriously strong and/or broad-winged pegasi to haul several shipments of grain, berries, and other pony food into the clouds on a regular basis.

The best airship engineers are all Earth Ponies.

Pinkie demonstrates not only her famous Pinkie Sense, but also the ability to climb up mountains after Dashie (twice!) and the ninja-like ability to hide all over Ponyville.

A pegasus pony, a unicorn, and an Earth Pony got lost in the desert.

The pegasus went flying off to look for clouds, but was unable to pull enough moisture from the arid air around them.

The unicorn used their telekinesis to grab some rocks to make cover, but was too tired to do much after the fifth boulder.

The earth pony bucked open some cacti like a boss for water, and they didn't even get needles in their hooves.

actually, in Mare Do Well, AJ demonstrated the ability to leap over mountains as she left the area

So a power comparision:

Pegasi: Can fly (probably magically assisted), walk on clouds and control the weather. Tactical telekensis makes what they are holding 'float' ( This is why Dash appears to be so strong...what she's touching has actually lost all it's weight).

Unicorns: Can directly use magic via their horns. Spells linked to their CM, plus telekenisis.

E Ps: Water sense, geology sense, green thumb, enhanced strength and endurance, mighty voice, camoflague skills. I'd also add restistence to th elements to that. (dont catch colds, no alergies etc).

Nah...it's Unicorns who get the short end of the stick...so you can make stuff float huh? Good luck in the great outdoors...
