I'd be calling for the exile of Spike, personally. Or at least a public apology, and confirmation from Twilight that this would NEVER happen again. I'd also expect Twilight to create a contingency plan, just in case this DOES happen again.

It happened once and nopony was injured. He may be a bit unwelcome around Sugarcube Corner for a while (except while he's helping them rebuild the roof), but exile is kinda harsh.

I'd be pissed off myself...

As I said, unless I had a workable contingency plan from Twilight, I wouldn't want him around. Nothing personal, but I need to keep the safety of my home in mind

I still think that exiling a child over the risk that he might go crazy is pretty f***ing disproportionate.

Besides, he doesn't go "cute little OH GODZILLA", he spends several hours growing first, and that gives you plenty of time to sound the alarm. Maybe set up a Spike containment bunker outside Ponyville in case it happens again.

Given their culture of love and tolerance, I think they'd be inclined to be rather more forgiving.

I repeat: Give me proof that he's not likely to go nuts again. Give me a workable cotingency in case he does, and publically give me your word that this will NEVER happen again.

Then I'd let him stay

Huh, I'm kinda stunned not one crack about feeding Spike after midnight.

@Ginger: keep in mind the fact that Ponyville has been totally wrecked like half a dozen times by now, and they always bounce back really quickly. The only reason it was so bad this time around is because they got caught off guard; now that they know the warning signs, they can prepare accordingly. In any case, I doubt Spike is going to get punished too harshly, especially since he was Not Himself for most of the episode. When he actively resists the hoarding urge, he can, it's just that this time around he didn't know the consequences, and didn't bother resisting it. Just find a big cave nearby, and lock him in there when he gets lanky, and then let him out when he goes back to normal.

Sadly, Peeler would be justified in disliking Spike and keeping an eye on him.

So you exile him.

Then Twilight writes to her mentor, who is likely to respond poorly to suggestions that it is right to banish someone (because apparently it has to be emphasized: SPIKE. IS. A. CHILD.) over acts committed in a clear state of diminished responsibility that slightly damaged a few buildings and caused no other harm.

...Now, if it happens again you may have a case, but nopony was harmed, nothing irreparable and irreplaceable was damaged, he was clearly not in control of his actions and any risk of harm is telegraphed hours in advance. So really, if it happens again and you get hurt, it's your own stupid fault for not paying attention.

@JT Just because somewhere is prone to disaster doesn't mean you should just ignore any potential disaster that you CAN avert and nip it in the bud before it starts.

I'm not using no harm no foul here. and if the risk isn't as great as you claim, then why CAN'T Twilight fulfil my reasonable demands?

Um, that's exactly what I suggested. When he starts going lanky again, get him out of town before he gets big enough to do real damage. The symptoms show up like half a day before he actually becomes dangerous. Now that they know what causes it, they can counter it and get him back to normal in short order, if it even happens again. If he's aware of the greed urge, it'll be much easier for him to suppress it than it was in this episode.

Actually, here's a question:

If you exile him, doesn't that virtually guarantee the eventual appearance of a justifiably pissed-off full-size dragon?

Forgive me if I'd be a little wary of living in the same town as someone who could turn into a rampaging, mindless monster capable of destroying a CITY!!!

Am I the only one who sees the issue here? Am I just fucking crazy?

Then I have no issue. What I'm saying is that I'd have no qualms with banishing him if they DIDN'T have a plan like that in place
