I hate storms knocking out my phone lines and me being unable to reply until three pages later. But considering the topic that probably would've happened anyway.

Anyway, replying to Kegisak and Kuroi Tsubasa Tenshi:

I'm trying to act on ya'll's advice as much as possible, and I think I've found a way to make "Spike Voice" work for dialogue sequences.

But I'm having trouble expanding on both the threat of the Black Water and the legend of the Mother Pony. In both cases, the problem is the feeling I get that everything that can be said on those subjects, has been. So I'm not really sure what to do with that.

@Kegisak:

"J'en ai assez de vos insinuations narquois, "?

EDIT: Replaced sarcastiques with narquois.

Like I said for the legend of the mother Pony, you could give us the whole story. Fiction writing isn't just about giving us information, it's about giving it to us in a way that makes us feel something. So while there might not be anything to it other than, the mother pony made equestria and left, telling us the story itself would let us know just how they think about the mother pony - it would reveal her as some great, awe-inspiring figure, something of magic and mystery. The Same goes for the black waters. Give us a deeper account of what happened, and how getting infected felt. Give us lots of nice, juicy details. Let us hear the wailing of ponies getting sucked under. Make them suffer, so that we're scared. It's callous, but it works.

[up]oh god, Just because I'm Canadian doesn't mean I speak French. I nearly failed French in school, but let me see... something about a sarcastic insinuation...did I not understand a Sarcastic insinuation?

Hah! Classy.

[up][up]up in Canadia land we have to take french up until high school. I always hated it...but I'm surprised to see that I actually do remember enough to be able to guess at most short phrases. Go repetition, I suppose.

My apologies if I'm derailing things, but I simply had to share this.

Hey , somebody proposed that we should change the current quote to " welcome to the heard" http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/remarks.php?trope=Main.MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic&id=33288#33288 Opinions?

[up][up][up] I took French last year in university. Got a B. Don't remember anything useful.

I took a bunch of Spanish in middle and high school (four years), but I don't think I've retained a lot. If someone talks slow to me I can probably understand, though.

[up] Yeah, I really don't like the current page quote. I think I'd go for something like:

"WHY DO I LIKE THIS?" - Countless 20-something men.

It may have been lost in the previous pages, but Fi M is Troperiffic enough that it qualified to get the My Little Pony franchise on Trope Overdosed. Rejoice, everypony!

Back to my regular scheduled lurking of this thread.

Don't forget about the part where Chretien grabbed a protester by the throat (in his defense, the guy got in his face); all while wearing a leather coat and sunglasses. People made Terminator jokes for months.

Ah, yes. And the best part is, Chretien isn't the craziest man we've ever put in charge.

Okay, as if we needed another reason to want to see more of Princess Luna in season two, we now need enough scenes for someone to make a proper PMV to this song.

I have the idea of writing my own essay about FIM:

"Why are you watching that? Don't you know that's for..."

Gender Politics, Social Expectations and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Too deep? Here we have one of the greatest social mysteries of the era, with not only cultural gender expectations playing a role, but also the diffusion of information and culture through the Internet, not to mention the contrast this provides to modern-day gender roles and the such.

This fandom is a sociology goldmine; you can't go deep enough.

Friendship Is Magic is great material for an essay like that.

I took a course about gender in modern history this semester, and I was hoping for a chance to bring up My Little Pony somewhere. That never happened though.

It was triggered by reading "Self-Made Man", an account of a lesbian who passed successfully as a man for 1 1/2 years. The insights she gleaned about being a man are unique, as far as I know. Here's the bit that really stood out for me, RE: this fandom:
Somebody is always evaluating your manhood. Whether it's other men, other women, even children. And everybody is always on the lookout for your weakness or inadequacy, as if it's some kind of plague they're terrified of catching, or, more importantly, of other men catching. If you don't make the right move, put your eyes in the right place at any given moment, in the eyes of the culture at large that threatens the whole structure. [...]
The worst of this scrutiny came from being perceived as an effeminate guy. Other guys, it turned out, were hypervigilant about the rules of manhood, and they were disconcerted, sometimes deeply so, by my failure to observe those rules. [...] But it felt as if most men were genuinely afraid, almost desperately afraid sometimes of the spectral fag in their midst.
