I had a thought, maybe Spike volunteered to stay behind in Ponyville to look after all there pets and Fluttershy's animals so the rest could go to Rarity.

Btw, I've been doddling Octoquines...they look best with six tenacles plus two hooves to me.

Without hooves, they look far too weird. Cute but...unpony like.

With eight tenacles and two hooves, they look too 'busy'. Too much going on.

It's OK though. Having eight limbs is all that matters right?

The Young fliers competition was not well publicized and was more of a Cloudsdale thing, Discord and Nightmare Moon were isolated incidents where in which they beat their enemies in a non-public venue and very few would've known what had actually happened. Fame moves as the speed of light, Fluttershy was around for a short while, but was probably quickly replaced by other more famous models later on. Twilight isn't exactly asocial sort and it's pretty obvious Celestia did not parade around her prized student, especially considering Twilight's desire spent more time studying.

And finally the only questionable identity issue I can have is with Rarirty who should be more popular considering she is associated with Hoity Toity, Photo Finish, an Sapphire Shores.

Y'know, now that you mention it, The Best Young Fliers Comp does seem like it would only matter if you actually cared flying.

I mean, my city has an ice hockey team that does very well, but I honestly don't know much about them...meanwhile, my friend follows them very closely and knows the ins and outs.

That reminds me of the Dutch baseball team, that every once in a blue moon manages to do well. Yet nobody would actually know it, since no one gives a f*ck about baseball here.

That's similar to how professional soccer has never really caught on here in the U.S. I live in New England where we have the New England Revolution soccer team. I don't know anyone who follows them.
