I have to wonder about the pilot, did NMM actually banish Celestia somewhere, or did she just bugger off and let Twilight deal with it so she wouldn't have to risk hurting her sister?

@Mousa: I don't know how to vector, but I could lineart and color that for you if no one else is offering. It's dead week for me though, so it won't exactly be STAT.

Sort of related, but how do you think the sun/moon cycle works? Like, is it actually impossible for Celestia to raise the sun if Luna doesn't lower the moon first, or was NMM strong enough to prevent Celestia from raising the sun?

I actually mentioned that on the last page. I don't think the sun can be raised until the moon is lowered, and vice versa. There needs to be co-operation and understanding between each party. It requires harmony between them and absolute trust.

No basis for this whatsoever, but that's my head canon

I tend to skim a bit when I get back from class and there's a dozen new pages.

That explanation works for me. I prefer it to NMM overpowering Celestia, since that just brings up the question of why she's suddenly stronger than her older sister. I can buy Celestia going easy on her sister in a fight, but when it comes to raising the sun she'd have no reason to hold back.

Exactly. It'd also bring to mind a great mental image of Celestia actually BEATING NMM in a fight.

NMM would then just start chuckling smugly, because Celestia still can't do anything to lower the moon. Beating her sister in a fight is meaninngless.

The issue for Celestia was never "Can I beat NMM?" It was: "How do I stop the endless night and save my sister?"

I just thought Celestia would raise the sun and there would be the moon in the sky during the day, nothing special. But I like the thought of NMM keeping the sun down. She must be ridiculously strong to keep the moon up and the sun down at the same time.

but the moon isn't just THE MOON, it's the stars and the night sky and all that. When they raise the celestial bodies, they're bringing forth a host of other changes as well

Again, no basis, just my headcanon.

The emphasis has always been on harmony and balance. Like yin and yang. NMM fucked up the balance. Weaker or stronger she's still an incredible threat

that's what I gathered from a quick look back.

honestly, like I said I wasn't really interested in them specifically, but I do really like the idea of us having our own mascot/OC pony.

Well yeah,

but this troper is adament that it goes in the fic thread, where it will either die of neglect or block out the fic ideas of others. And they seem to be able to always show up right on que when the discussion gets underway, ready to raise their objections.

So...I'm done. There's other things bothering me too, so I'm calling quits before I lose my temper and put my foot in it.

@Applelight: As far as I remember only one poster was really mad about it, and even then it was more mild annoyance than anything else. The other complaints are more of a "this topic fits the fanfic thread better". The real fight was more about the whole grimdark thing, which I'm not going to get into.
