It's scary, yeah, but also a little heartbreaking to see how little self-confidence and trust Twi had in that episode.

I bet Big Mac is secretly some kind of awesome secret agent in the EIS (Equestrian Intelligence Service).

That was a silly thing to say.

I identified way too much with Twilight in this episode to be of comfort.

Looking back at my past, I'm inclined to say that I can seriously empathise with Twi because I had some serious paranoia issues at one point while I was in school.

@ginger: Twi just couldn't bear the thought of seeing her mentor-momjesty's sad and disappointed expression. That's worse than being scolded or banished or demoted.

I don't know, but am I the only one who just found this episode only amusing? I mean, I can't find Twilight breakdown anything other than a massive character exaggeration that borders on OOC-ness.

but EVERYONE reacts that way around Celestia. They ALL just ASSUME that she's gonna spring some hyperbolic punishment on them over the tiniest things.

Maybe it's partly because I exemplify quite a lot of Twi's traits, but I can see where she's coming from with the paranoia. Part of it is also likely to be leftover trauma from the Discord Incident.

@ginger: You just trap a Chaos God in stone and ground your sister on the moon for a millenium and see what the rumors can cook up about you.

x 4 No, you aren't. It's a popular episode, but many people dislike it as well. It helps if you believe that Twilight was still traumatised by her experiences with Discord and that she was undergoing Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome.

EDIT: Epically ninja'd. And yes. A: Everyone acts like that around Celestia and B: I can totally see where Twilight's coming from.

Of course, it takes a lot to ruffle Celestia or push her Berserk Button, so as long as you don't do anything too stupid, she's chill.

Yeah, part of the reason I liked Lesson Zero so much was that I could totally sympathize with Twilight. I get stressed really easily. It's an exaggeration, yeah, but I don't think it was OOC.

Also, I'm going to link my review of episode 8 again for those who didn't see it last time I posted it, which was at like 1 in the morning.

True, Twilight can go to peices over trivial matters. But in her mind, her whole life was about to reset. So I can understand why she went nuts...plus it was really funny.

Most of the ponies tend to go a bit OOC when CMFIS kicks in, although "OOC" is debatable when you consider that the roots of their breakdowns are usually buried within their personality.

I thought Lesson Zero was hilarious, though. Definitely my favorite episode thus far.

Great CMFIS analysis.

While it was rather over-exaggerated in many parts (checklist to make a checklist and putting making the checklist on the checklist she's supposed to be making...), I'm in the same boat as Ace. I just wanted to give Twi a great big hug for most of the episode. Yes, even when she brought out the slasher smile or any of her other deranged faces. Almost especially when those faces came out, actually (I can't be the only one, can I?).

Because this thread moves way too fast, I want to make a side note on that date with Dashie thing. Thanks to a crack pairing bot, the WTG and me being silly and agreeing to the bot's terms, I actually wrote a fic back when Dusky's (ponysona) personality hadn't diverged all that much from my own yet. It was a pretty awkward night. As for why, the motive in the fic was kind of a plot device based off of what happened in my longfic.
