@Mousa: You realize that there's nothing in the description that necessitates Rarity acting like a bitch, right? For all we know, she might have really good reasons for staying in Canterlot, and her friends might actually support letting her stay because they think she might like it. Sort of like in Green Isn't Your Color. Rarity might want to stay in Ponyville to be with her friends, but they all want her to pursue her dreams or something.

Of course, it's entirely possible that she might be a huge bitch, but that's certainly not the only way of interpreting the synopsis we have.

Rarity doesn't seem the one to be extremely petty for very long. She's been shown to be a bit more self-conscious than that.

^I think we'll see that Canterlot doesn't really represent Rarity's dreams. A lot of her character arcs involve things not being what she thinks they are, or the fancy life that she thinks she wants not really being what she actually wants. I'm not saying that there won't be elements of that - the show's been a little iffy with expressing morals in the past - but I certainly think Rarity's career will be fine in Ponyville. She became famous enough for Hoity Toity and Sapphire Shores to pay visits, after all!

I'd be pretty disappointed if it turns out to be as simple as "the fashion ponies are all douchebags, I'm staying in Ponyville" (not that it would be out of line with what we've seen thus far).

I think it'll be good, I just hope it turns out turns out to be more elaborate than what amounts to a mash-up of AJ's sequence from Cutie Mark Chronicles with Dash's test of character from the pilot. Although somebody pointed out earlier that the Rarity episodes tend to have relatively simple concepts that are very well executed, so that could work out just as well.

@Japanese Teeth, I can dream, can I not? You do have a point. I may just be interpreting it in the way that would please me the most, but you might be right too. But considering I've gotten two weeks in a row where I character I dislike has been acting in various degrees of dickishness, three is a magic number.

   Thrakkorzog is displeased with this focus on the marshmallow one. He seek methods of how to act like a normal brony for the time being until I can ascertain the weakness of Twilight Sparkle.   

@Red: It wouldn't surprise me all if that were the case. It might even be that she actually moves to Canterlot for a while before realizing that even though her career is doing better than ever, she can't enjoy it without her friends around.

I know. If anything, I can understand why someone would make fics about about potential love interests or mild romantic tension (especially in Rainbow Dash's case). But the epidemic of "Cupcakery" (nice blanket term right there) is just plain unnecessary.

Gents, and our three ladies, I'm faced with a conundrum due to my lack of movie knowledge, on my Ask the Mane six blog someone has asked what the cast's favorite movies are. I've basically decided on a few good ideas like Stranger Than Fiction and Inception for Twilight, Happy Feet for Fluttershy, The Michael Bay's Transformers franchise for Rainbow Dash, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for Pinkie Pie; which means I have no idea what to do for Applejack and Rarity, and I don't even know if my first couple of choices are good enough.

Any thoughts?

Really, let's keep the Gorn out of this thread. It squicks a lot of people, and it's barely related to the topic at hand. Discussing grimdark fanworks and stuff is okay, I guess, but we should keep the detailed descriptions out of here.

AJ would like a good movie about farming and/or family, and Rarity would love some classic romantic show.

Like others have said, I just hope the ponies of canterlot aren't all MASSIVE dicks.

Mostly it's the aristocracy of Canterlot that is depressingly full of snobs, especially the ones who try too hard at sucking up to the Princesses.

Rarity would probably be "Gone With the Wind"

Fair enough. Unfortunately, I still sometimes trick myself into believing that something I say/write will be pretty damn funny to just about everyone only to get a laugh out of a just few people while looking like a douchebag to everyone else. Sorry about that.
