it is not in my nature to hate works of fiction unless there horrible and even then I will think it's okay if I like any of the women characters. so I'm not one to talk of this matter

Negative IQ, most likely. Although it's a Dashie episode, and Dashie is without a doubt the most hated of the mane cast.

from ponychan, of course. There's always someone who cries 'ruined forever' every episode. Admittedly, this one was a bit weaker, but still. It could be the best episode ever and someone would still hate it. No accounting for tastes.

You, thinking about it: is there any in-show disrespect for earth ponies? I just find myself thinking how would Dash react to being shown up by an Earth pony, but it occurs to me that that would be really, really racist (It would make kind of a funny scene though - she bemoanes losing to a simple earth pony, and Applejack just glares and marches off). But I don't think we've ever really seen anypony who treats the races as different at all. They never regard one as being more capable at any job than another, aside from the stuff they just physically can't do. Which is respectable, if... maybe innacurate.

IMO, calling out racism in MLP is a lot like calling the fact that males almost never get pregnant in fiction sexism.

Their traditions, such as winter wrap up, can come off as a little bit condescending, but that's because earth ponies are muggles.

I think Faust has mentioned that the society doesn't really have any racism between the three races - egalitarianism and all that.

It's certainly an idea one can use in fanfiction, though, especially stories set outside of Equestria (like mine).

She is one of the most popular (hell, look at Ponychan's theme Best Pony), but from people who actually hate any of the mane cast Dashie gets it the most.

She's just a jerk so often she's really polarizing.

I would actually expect FS to be more hated, seeing as she is a moeblob, but she isn't, possibly because bronies are the sort of people who are generally okay with moe.

For some reason I get the feeling that if AJ actually had wings, RD wouldn't respect her as much as she does. Just a feeling I've got

It's specifically the balance between hate for her and love for her. Outside of me (and I'm pretty ambivalent towards her, I don't hate her) I don't think I've seen any Pinkie hate

Not... really. Assuming I've actually understood what your saying (I lost some sleep last night), the difference is that realistically, there would be some sort of divide between pony races. I mean, you can't call guys not getting pregnant sexist because it just plain old doesn't happen. It's biologically impossible.

There's no evidence of it happening in show, and that's to it's credit - there's really no need to show that to little kids. But the fact remains that even if their society is egalitarian, on the surface an earth pony can't do anything that another race couldn't do, and unicorns and pegasi both have something on earth ponies. It's almost impossible that they wouldn't be looked down on even a bit - even if it's only just 'recognition', like recognizing a man in a wheelchair couldn't climb stairs. Yeah, they could do it, but thatwouldn't stop anyone from thinking they couldn't.

Basically what I'm getting at is, do you think there's any chance that earth ponies are seen in-universe in the same way that the fans see them? As having got the short end of the fantasy-stick?

Obviously they are. Once again: winter wrap up's premise is that everyone must do stuff like earth ponies do - without magic.

Which is a lot like showing respect for disabled by making healthy people race in wheelchairs.

As for what the earth ponies can do, they have way more physical prowess. That's why basically all the workers are earth ponies. That's why RD is only on par with Applejack, and she's arguably the most athletic pegasus we know about.

TS is also better at picking apples, but she is the best at magic and even she finds magic incredibly tiring.
