Looking at all the events Applejack won, even if Rainbow used her wings there she'd still have lost them.

Also who's born with the best equipment is often part of athletic contests.

Dorku: to be fair, most of the ponies would be above average in a few stats other than their perceived primary. AJ kind of strikes me as well rounded, which would make sense if it was reflected in the stats as really great, but not the best at 3 separate stats.

According to layout artist Nayuki, that ham sandwich was an error. However, one of the German comics does show Rarity and Fluttershy having a picnic including sandwiches that appear to contain meat (though they don't get as far as actually eating said sandwiches, thanks to Rainbow Dash splashing into a nearby fountain).

Yeah, the real question is what bridles are for.

Whatshisgame: For those mature private times the ponies have off screen with each other. I don't think we need to go much further than that.

@Bad But they weren't being judged on how well they could fly. Different exercises measure athleticism in different ways. Swimmers are judged on different merits to Weight lifters for instance. and I don't think one can call either of those athletes MORE athletic than the other

She's also got some extra rules that allow her to go fast, charge in hard and clear her way through terrain quicker. Plus, she has her lasso.

Fine. Yes there are different variants of athleticism however the whole contest was trying to compare the athletic merits of two different types of athletes. It would be like trying to compare a Sprinter and a Weight Lifter, somewhere down the line it would be unfair for one of the two.

The whole contest had no chance of being fair whatsoever because of the differences between Earth Ponies and Pegasus Ponies.

I can think of another use for bridles, though—they could be used by blind or vision-impaired ponies who have guide dogs.

AJ is only pony from Mane Cast who have zero Emo moments.

Ponies are Serious Business, apparently.

Well, they both ended up happy in the end, which I guess is the important thing.

Hey, even when she started flying, AJ was still ablee to TACKLE RD out of the air (true she wouldn't have been flying at full speed, but I appreciate the moment nontheless, as well as her ability to keep RD on the ground until they crossed the line)

Well, we can agree that Earth Ponies are generally physically stronger than other ponies, correct? The Train pullers and the Appleoosians in general show that I think. The Hoofwrestling thing was probably thanks to Rainbow's Martial Arts training. For an arm wrestle strength isn't as important as leverage, right? And martial arts tend to focus a lot on leverage.

Therefore if you take away the merits of a Pegasus by removing wings as a factor then maybe Applejack should have had weights on her legs or something I dunno.

For serious Athletic competitions there'll probably be different events for different species.

Applejack in general is pretty good at stopping Rainbow. How many times has she grabbed hold of her tail?

She must have AWESOMELY strong teeth. I just loved the way she TACKLED RD out of the sky (I'm debating if that's more, or less cool than lassoing her)

I'd say the tackling out of the air is cooler.

So want an Equestrian Olympics episode. If it is segregated by species then it would have to show the best of each species. I wonder if Magic would have a place in the Unicorn events cause then it would be the greatest magic users rather than the physical elite.

If Magic were allowed then it would provide a great oppurtunity for us to see some other magic users who are on Twilight's level

I'd bet the Pegasus events are one of the main places Wonderbolts talent scout. I'd also bet that the Wonderbolts win pretty much every event.

It would be nice to see more powerful Unicorns. At the moment it goes Twilight then probably Trixie. Which is a pretty large drop.

In an Olympic event, I'd love to see some E Ps lift some massive weights. Or pull a train. Stuff like that.

One thing I DO wanna see is more of the wonderbolts being all around awesome. I mean, RD respects them to insane degree, you just know they're capable of amazing shit. Unfortunately they went the way of Worf the only time we saw them in action.

It'd be a great way to display that while Twilight maybe powerful, she's also got an INSANELY long way to go. (I hope they'd go that way, rather than having her curb stomp everypony)

We need the pegasi to fly through hoops for an event. Like hurdles but in the air.
