I've never heard of this band, what's their genre?
If you're referring to Showbread, they call themselves "raw rock" because they can't be arsed to figure out what genre they really are, or stick to one for longer than a single album. On
No Sir Nihilism Is Not Practical they were metal and screamo with some prog-rock song structures and rapid-fire back-and-forth between two vocalists. On
Age of Reptiles they were more hard rock. On the double album
Anorexia / Nervosa, they were metal with an industrial edge. On
The Fear of God, they were thrash, I think. On
Who Can Understand It?, they were alternative rock and the only raw thing about them were the lyrics. And I haven't heard the newest album,
Cancer, yet, but apparently it's a glam-punk rock opera?
In the interest of full disclosure I need to point out they're very, very Christian. They're quite upfront about it, thought it doesn't come up in every single song. Of course, whatever you think of when you hear the words "Christian rock", Showbread is almost certainly
not that.
My favorite song by them is
"Stabbing Art to Death"
. Lyrically, it's an examination of the meaning and significance of art—with an aside on the topic of Church music failing at its stated goal because it's terrible. Musically, it's six minutes long but packed with enough ideas to sustain six individual songs.
