You can do that with patents (they're called Patent Trolls), and possibly with copyrights, but you definitely can't do that with trademarks. Trademarks only exist as long as you are actually using them.

But, it's worth noting that things don't have to be done with the trade mark constantly. That's why Columbia will do Spider Man Movies every so often - to keep a hold on the Trademark so they can keep using him.

Yes but the point is that patents, copyright, and trademarks are completely different things. The closest we have to a trademark troll was Edge Games and they got pretty much laughed out of court.

The worst was probably the Star Control Flash Game. They barely even pretended to be making a real game. They just uploaded a crappy flash game the day before they applied to keep the trademark so they could claim they were still using it.

Well you should get around to watching it sometime. It's awesome. Also don't forget to watch Serenity afterwords. I actually saw Serenity before watching Firefly, leaving me confused at points.
